Worked in a Museum in Boston for 8 years...I still regret having left that job sometimes, but I needed a change at the time, and needed more $ sadly. Great environment, but like anything else it has its ups & downs. You get to work with and around amazing art and interesting artists and folks, but there's also a level of pretentiousness you won't see elsewhere that can get really tiresome. Overall, I say go for it, it'll be very rewarding..:)

Depends on the gallery. For the most part, I would say it is a relaxed job. I used to work in an art gallery/frame shop. It was a cool place, and I liked being in contact with other artists. But the money was lacking, and being around the "dealers" was an eye opener. There are some real vultures out there that prey on an artist's desire to get their stuff out and make a living. The whole scene eventually sickened me. That and it is amazing how many men you come across in the gallery world who are married but sleep with other men. But, one nice thing is the hours are usually very friendly to an outside life. I could surf in the morning, and after work, which is a luxury that is no longer available for me unfortunately.
