I hope this is better.] I don't know where I would be without Erowid. Probably dead, or more sober than I am now. Either way, not good. An Erowid supporter has offered to match donations until May 31, which has spurred me to become a member. http://www.erowid.org/donations/donations_matching.shtml Anyone else out there done their bit this year? Anyone (see below) got some beefs to get off their chest about Erowid? And - hey, kids! - if you don't know about http:www.erowid.org you really should. A ton of the basic questions about any drug (i.e. "If I take acid for the first time is it gonna kill me?") are answered there, and more, in glorious detail. Caveats below.

Spam is spam...even if it is for Erowid! Missed by some but not by others. I have always enjoyed stopping by Erowid... but I learned long ago... they are rather lacking in alot of new substance (not substances... substance on the site). It is easy for a site to ask for donations once in awhile.... but to donate to a site that does not really change much... is like giving money to an author of a book you have read over and over. If the author wrote a new book... I would buy it and support them. But if an author just wants to live of off his one book's backlash.... pffttttt! Same goes with sites and thier webmasters. At least half of the site is original and not just stuff gleaned off of the web over the years. I find myself using Erowid as a quick reference some times, but not like I used to years ago. I tend to go for the places that contain more indepth info on the things I am looking up. For that quick reference.... it will always be a priceless place to visit though. If it is ok for one person to knowingly "break this forum's rules" and post spam.... is it ok for all the other people to? I am sure there are alot of causes out there that could use money for thier various this and thats! Donations are a funny thing. Something I look at, as someone giving money because they choose to do so on thier own. Solicitations of donations? SPAM! Your spam "fits" here? What about Peta's spam in the animal section? What about Breast Cancer spam in the Woman's forums? Prostate cancer donations in the Men's forum? Magic hat donations in the Rainbow Forum? Sure... donations can fit anywhere in this forum. Maybe you should have posted it in the help wanted section and drowned out that " Get A Check For $600K In 2 Years!" thread? Az
I will be sending a donation very soon. Freedom of imformation is rare these days, Erowid is a ray of sunlight amongst a black sky of a society thats raped you of your basic rights and freedoms. They need you.
If it will make you feel any better.... I will also "claim" to donate $50 dollars to attempt to make myself look good in front of other forum members.... WHY not... others do it Just got through donating Who knows maybe they really need help and require others to spread out through the internet, to other forums... ignoring the forums rules... and spamming folks! I guess they have to pay thier rent and put food on the table. Good advice for anyone making donations to a "non profit" organization. Check just exactly where your money is going! Erowid is non profit and will have public records for tax purposes. Wonder just how many of those donations got to furthering the site.... or for maintaining the people that run the site! I don't see nothing new put up that often. The site is hosted for free. Wonder if the folks at Erowid would mind if I made a donation to some life saving charity instead of them. Personally, I could think of thousands of charities that could use donations to feed starving people, build wells, save peoples lives and so forth. I do not see this place filled up with these lifesaving requests for donations. But of course Erowid needs money more than people that are dying around the world. LMFAO!!!.... lol, erowid don't update? You gotta be kidding last time I was going there frequently there were new experience reports all the time. Those are read over and over, critiqued, edited etc etc. I'm sure they have real jobs too. You're in a fucking psychedelics forum, you think breast cancer donation threads in a women's forum is spam? Gimme a fuckin break dude. As much as we all wish money didn't exist and we all got through by helping each other with what we had, that ain't reality. I think a forum for psychedelics would be an alright place for th is type of thing, about the premiere non-biased psychedelic drug information website on the net. IDK who hosts erowid, but most sites have to pay decent fees, and erowid probably uses a decent amount of bandwith. Ever heard of it? Maybe not, but being in IT, more specifically, dealing with telco equip and integration all the time, I can tell you that pipes for sites with that much traffic are not cheap.
