Hello everybody. I would like to grow an outdoor plant in the NY area. Here is my situation:

I would like to grow it in a pot that can be moved when certain people come to visit. I would probably keep it on my backyard deck. I have some questions that I would love some help with. I would greatly appreciate any help you guys can throw my way.

    1. When is the best time to start? It has been around 60 degrees pretty regularly the last couple of weeks.

    2. I don't want to spend a fortune on seeds, but I don't want to grow crap either. Where is a good place to go? Can I spend around 50 bucks on some nice seeds?

    3. I would like a pretty hassle free experience. I will water as necessary, and feed the plant with whatever I need to. I figured my first grow is an experiment and doing an outdoor grow would be easiest, and being it is the season soon, I figure why the hell not.

    4. How much light do these plants need? Is it ok to bring the plant inside for parts of the day, or over a weekend when the inlaws show up?

    5. How long does the process take? from planting all the way to smoking ready?

    6. What should I know about watering and feeding these things?

    7. How much will one plant yield if done right?

    8. Does planting outside a problem with plants not making it all the way to the end? Should I plant more than one just in case?

I know I have a lot of questions, but I figured I can get plenty of my concerns addressed here. I will now start to read through all the old posts to try to pick up some info as well. Once again, any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks guys.

www.seedboutique.com <<Nirvana Standard Seeds are good quality without expense

12 hours a day light, minimum...it is ok to bring the plant inside for a little bit every once in a while...I dunno about for a whole weekend though

Roughly 6-9 months depending on the strain

Water when the soil looks like it needs to be watered (believe me, it's easy to tell haha) feeding...I feed once in a while...I'm not very advanced haha...umm...just maybe once a week...and then if they look like they're getting poisoned, I cut back...and if they don't look like they're getting results at all...I increase quantity a bit

No way to tell you how much you will yield if done right (different strains...different conditions...too many factors)

You may want to plant like 4 or 5 until they sex so that way you don't grow 1 just to end up with 1 male or to have 1 die...

6-9 months, really? That's how long it takes to grow? If I start next week, won't that take me into the winter and kill the plants? I always thought it was like 3 months or something like that.

Is outdoor growing a longer process than indoor growing?

    thanks for the responses

Marijuana is an annual, meaning it completes it's growing cycle in less than 1 year.
Like all annuals, it's growing cycle is controlled by the sun.
When days are 12 hours or more long (like after the spring equinox) the plant is in vegatative growth.
Along about mid-late Aug., the plant realizes the days are getting shorter and that soon fall will be here--time to prepare for the next generation: flowering, pollination, growing seeds and dying. This flowering process takes 2 months.

Indoors YOU control the amt. of light the plant recieves.
Most indoor growers raise their plants under 24/7 light for at least a month then switch the timer to 12/12, "tricking" the plant into thinking it's fall and sending the plant into flowering.
So indoors you can get a crop is as little as 3 months.

To shorten the outdoor growing season, plant pot seeds in early June, although this will mean of course less weed since it has less time to grow before starting to flower.

Bringing the plant inside for a weeked without a growroom will majorly hurt the plant.

You will benefit greatly and increase your chances of a successful harvestby spending a hour or so reading a grow book. That will help you determine what and when to feed it, and how to tell the males from the females (VERY IMPORTANT).

Ok, thanks for the reply. If I was to plant in may, it is now 60-70 degrees, once august comes around, won't it flower and be ready by september? do these plants have problems in 90 degree weather?

First forget about temps. Pot does great any temp between 50--100F.
Re-read my post above, Flowering begins in mid-Aug. and takes 2 months to complete ok?
