Okay, so my friend and I started an animal rights club this year at my highschool and we just recently got it approved by the student council. We have a lot of restrictions on what we can do because we live in a very conservative area. It was extremely hard to get this club up and running. It took nearly 2.5 months to get the administators approval alone.

We are planning our first activity and this is what we have so far:

We are going to set up a table at lunch for a few days and have a vegan/vegetarian bake sale with information regarding the lifestyle in general and how being vegan and vegetarian is better for people's health, the enviroment and most importantly, the animals! Also, all the money we make, we are planning on donating it to an animal organization or shelter.
We also had an idea of setting up a video to play during this time too, but I'm not sure if that will be approved.

    Basically, I have 2 questions.

    1. Do you have any awesome recipes that can show people who are not familiar with the lifestyle that vegan/vegetarian food CAN be tasty?

    2. Do you have any other Ideas that I can present to the club for activities?

Thanks for reading and I can't wait to hear what yall have to say.

A wonderful organization is The Farm Sanctuary which rescues and cares for animals which would have otherwise been slaughtered for food or lived to produce milk or eggs. they have a farm in CA and one in upstate NY. i think will send out information and things on veg*nism if you are interested. they have a website.

You could organize a Bake Sale, and donate all your proceeds to a local animal shelter, or start your own "animal" foundation. Or start a fund to raise a new animal shelter in your area. At your bake Sale you could hand out flyers, of what you are all about, and your mission. Bringing awarenees to others is always a great start!!

Nothing goes over better or stretches farther than a huge pot of vegan chili!

I think its a great idea.. I wish i had done something like that at my school, but every one made fun of me for being a veggie.. you've got alot of spunk to stick to your guns against opposition..especially in a conservative environment...I applaud your efforts... best of luck! *high five* :)

Thank you. My school is very conservative and i get a lot of rude comments all the time. My thought is that if no one stands up, nothing will change. So, im graduating this june and Im hoping to put as much of a liberal view into my school as possible. already, i have helped with establishing a peace club. Now an animal rights club.
    Yay!

But the vegan chili sounds like a good plan! Any recipe suggestions?

Hi. I like the idea that you started an animal rights club: it's great to be politically active for your passions and to do your civic duty to do what you can to change the world. I would just caution you on using the term "conservative" in correlation with "rude." The way you discussed conservatism paints conservatives in a bad light. I am a conservative who is the co-president of an animal rights club at my school, and it offended me that you make it sound like, just because I am a conservative, that if I was at your school I would be rude. I do my part for animals and respect others' opinions just like you. I agree "that if no one stands up, nothing will change"- and this is why i am telling you this, so that you can disassociate conservatives from evil. So if you want to share your liberal view with others that is great, but please don't make it sound like it's good infiltrating evil, because it isn't. Remember: conservatism is a different ideology from liberalism, but both groups of believers should be respected by the other if either want to truly bring about a better world. Also, conservatism doesn't translate into being against human rights, animal rights, women's rights, gay rights, etc. I am an example: I am a proud conservative and I care immensely for rights for all. Conservatives want to improve the world too- remember that.
