I happened upon a news segment today on global warming and Polar Bears drowning... I only caught the end... Can anyone let me know what they might have been talking about?
polar bears might go extinct because of global warming. their climate is heating up to the point that the ice is melting and they're having to swim farther and farther to hunt. they're getting exhausted from all the swimming and arent able to find enough to eat. mother polar bears arent having as many cubs because they're bordering on starvation and they're not able to care for the cubs they are having, so the new cubs are dying. http://www.worldwildlife.org/climate/science/arcticReport.cfm
Ugh. These spastic scare tactics are truly sickening. They're not teddy-bears; they're aggressive living things that are masters at adapting to the harshest environments imaginable. And if they can't adapt, they'll go extinct. Sucks, but hey, that's life on planet Earth. Deal with it.
nice attitude, bud do you drive an suv and live in a mcmansion too? this is about global warming caused by the selfishness of the human race. these polar bears are 'canaries in the coalmine', except that they are at the top of their food chain, and the coalmine is our planet. arent you a little bit concerned about what this means on a large scale?
And yeah they have been known to maim, kill and what not (my cousins drives a tundra buggy in Churchill Manitoba the town actually has polar bear curfews, that is you go inside or possibly get to snuggle up in one of their mouths) but they are pretty darn cuddly lookin...' And man, just to be able to survive up there must have taken years and years of adaptations to the brutal cold. Now it's switching up to fast for them to keep up...
"seven of 13 populations of polar bears in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago (more than half the world's estimated total) are either stable or increasing..... Of the three that appear to be declining, only one has been shown to be affected by climate change." -- Dr. Mitchell Taylor, manager, wildlife research section, Department of Environment, Igloolik, Nunavut.
NavierStokes and dunce --what are your motivations for disputing wether global warming is happening or not.Just curious. Please compare what you think will happen if you are wrong, and what you think will happen if you are right.Thank you--scratcho-----
We're all fools in our own way.I'm asking a question with respect, to try and get some kind of answer from those who are so adament about the issue. Not a bunch of printed matter, but from the heart.
Global warming was already in the curiculum when I was at school - 20 years ago.I think it's a widely acknowledged threat by now
True, but wouldn't be interesting to find out why they picked the side they have--especially since both sides are represented vociferously?
El Scratcho is right. It's always good to learn about what the other side is thinking. It helps deepen us and gain a better, balanced perspective. I can't understand why people would disagree with the concept with global warming - as the planet is our home. No one likes it when people come into our house and violate our things, making the house uninhabitable for a couple of days. Sure it's a few days, it sucks, we move on - - - but this isn't a situation that will rectify itself in a couple of days. *sighs* I digress. 'Point is, Scratcho is right. I would also like to know what Navier's reasons are behind his posts.
Feelinfreakish, I seen that awhille ago on the green peace website ... I couldnt believe it .. I did a report on it in my science class last year ... its soo sad that were causing another species to die off and not many people care ... it sucks People need to start caring because were cutting of what we and other species need to survive. Why do we have to be so selfish ...

We may be killing animals off on many different fronts, but unless you're ready to give up your current life, get used to it.
