Hello from the equator, will be goin to Melbourne end of next month, in a group of 4.. Planning to drive ourselves down the Great Ocean Road and to Yarra Valley.. also to Phillip Island.. Any other nice place to recommend, to fill up a week's itinery? First time there.. so excited! By the way, is Sunday a no-alcohol no-pub day?
Everyday is alcohol day, Sundays stopped being alcohol free about 30 years ago I think. Great Ocean Road, The Yarra Valley, The Grampians and The Great Alpine Road are just a few of the great provinces to see over here. How much time do you have here?
King Parrot.. I'll be there for one week, from sunday to sunday.. If i were to drive from melbourne -> geelong ->Apollo Bay -> Port Fairy -> Grampian -> Melbourne. Do you think we could make it in 3 days? Which is the ideal point to spend our night.. I was wondering if i should book for the stay before hand. I m planning to overnight at Apollo Bay, Grampian before driving back to Melbourne.. need advise from those who have tried out.. thanks a lot. Thanks Brack.. i'll let ya know how i feel after the trip.. but i believe it's gonna be great!!
The drive from Melbourne along to Port Fairy will be a full day trip. Take your time along the Great Ocean Road and stop at all the marked attractions. I'd advise you stay in Warnambool, it's a nice town to see in terms of history, great places to eat and lots of accomodation. Day 2, drive to the Grampians. Will take a 3 or so hours from Warnambool. If you leave early enough, you will be able to see most of what's to see, stay the night around the Grampians, then drive back to Melbourne on day 3. The Yarra Valley is easy to see, it could be done in a day. It's only approx 45kms East of Melbourne.
We are traveling in a group of 4, and planning to book for backpackers inn.. but then one of us come up with an idea on renting a Caravan / Campervan.. What do you suggest? If you have tried one,.. could you advise if they have any washroom or toilet in it? hehe..
Some campervans do have toilets and showers but cost more than some houses in outback Australia. A Toyota Hiace is the typical hippy van these days.
how's the weather in melbourne around end may or early june? do i really need thermal wear, windproof jacket.? and does it rain alot or just drizzle occasionally ..
Melbourne will be ok in June, a bit cold, but if you're heading down the Great Ocean Road it's best to take something to protect from the wind, it can get pretty wild down there at times, especially in the colder months. You'll see the ocean at it's chaotic best. In regard to rain, who knows? Melbourne, and the coastline are so unpredictable, it can be sunny one minute, raining the next, so it's best to prepare for anything.
Its started to become quite cold during the day and night. Days never getting over 20 C with the nights dropping to 10 C or less, with rain and rain. Its like its winter here already....... But then again they say Melbourne can get 4 seasons in one day.......
oh.. it's so cold already (below 10 degree now).. i thought it would only fall below ten in July? Seems like i'll need to shop for winter clothes / rain clothes again.. cold is okie but i dislike raining day.. it's goin to be so gloomy and lifeless.. we will have to drive very slowly if it rain.. dunno wat kinda car we will be getting yet.. Could you recommend some best place to shop, for some good and cheap stuffs?? Thanks.
Advice ?? Dont Go There !!! It's A Shithouse Full Of Legal???? Brothels That Exploit Young Vulnerable Asian Girls. It's A Pimps Headquarters....a Terrible Place To Drive In Or Through, And The Sport Obsessed (so Called") Aussie?? People Are Ponced Up Assholes!! There Are Many Nice Multi Culture People There But They Are Sucked into The Babylonia Of Australian Fascist Capitalism And Rascism...give It A Miss !!
FondleProtudly! Why dont you fuck off, if you dont like australia then stay the fuck out of the Australia forum
Firstly mate what the fuck is your problem??? I am a second generation Australian but I am also a Jew and a Socialist and I find this country to be pretty fucking cool. Yes we have our problems: Howard Government, Racism, Shit treatment of Aboriginals...etc But dammit there are some good things, which we can be proud of. No I'm not sport obsessed (although I do like it). Why are you dissing this country? I'm sorry if you had come here and had a bad time. To the person who is coming to Melbourne: Check out St Kilda, Fitzroy, Windsor, and the CBD. If you get the chance while you are in the CBD go to Caladonian Lne and come into St Jeromes Cafe. Nice chilled out spot in the city, head to Lonsdale St via Swanston St, turn left into Lonsdale (stay on the left side) then turn left again into the Lane marked "Caladonian Lne". Melbourne also has the best live music scene in Australia next to maybe...Hobart. Also, if you are a bit hungry and your around Fitzroy (especially Brunswick St) grab a Kebab/Souvlaki.
Melbourne is a decent enough place for any Australian to visit, but i'd say to any international visitor that there are much nicer places to visit. I'd go to Queensland or Tassie or to get that uniquely Australian experience - The desert or any dry mountain ranges like the Flinders Ranges are very beautiful and bleak in a very Australian way. I found the blue mountains incredibly amazing too, though i haven't seen a lot. Anyone who says that melbourne, the city is a good place is very bias.
