All of you are so hipocritical......Many of you are saying that this girl is a "fake hippy" Can one of you explain to me what is a fake hippy.....

If your judging someone by there clothes to determine if they are a hippy or not....you yourself have the whole hippy ideal backwards

Being a hippy is not about what you wear or display on your body, its more of a state of mind.....more of an understanding, than who can look more like a hippy...or who can wear the most patchwork....

Yes there is a culture when it comes to the hippy lifestyle.... AND I LOVE THE PEOPLE, THE STYLE, THE MUSIC, THE SCENE......but that is such a miniscule part too the way of thinking is processed....

I myself went through the whole stage "look like a hippy to be a hippy" but then I learned its not about how you look....but more about how you feel and and how you concieve life as a whole......

    You make a great point.

Unfortunately you're never going to stray far from human nature-- there's always going to be an element within a group that is going to judge people based on looks, clothing, or whatever... call folks posers or shun them for not conforming to a mindset, age group or not being "socially responsible" enough. If people want to feel better than me that is their prerogative- I have no problem with that. That they bother to call out (in this case, lanamodel) for not measuring up to their ideals only serves to reaffirm in their own minds that they are better and more deserving to be knighted into the royal order of hippiedom. Now we can all be reminded what true and pure hippies they are by virtue of their pointing out how lanamodel is not.

    Anyhoooooo--

I read the original post as merely a request to find clothing to fulfill a look- not necessarily a desire to be part of the culture. The suggestions as to where to shop or to to make one's own clothes are constructive... everything else comes across as very judgemental. I didn't read anything to suggest the original poster wanted necessarily to immerse in a lifestyle- just to get ahold of some clothing to achieve a look. Nothing wrong with that from my vantage point. The truely nonjudgemental way to respond would be to suggest a few places where the look is being purveyed... quiet dignity may gently guide the person away from retailers that carry clothing manufactured in sweat shops, but the chastising serves the truer point of the posts.

My thoughts exactly. If we do not quit calling people "fake hippies" which is the equivalent of "poser" in punk/skater talk (which, as ironic as it sounds, is usually a term only used by those who themselves seem to exhibit the signs of being a "poser"), then it makes hippie nothing but another scene. It is more than that! There are people who are punks, that I would deffinately classify as hippe, because it isn't really much of a way of dress or something like that, it seems to represent more of a culture, or even an ethnicity or race to me, in that it doesn't really matter about your music taste, clothes or whatever. All of those things may go along with it, but are pretty much superficial in comparison to and entire outlook on life, politics, spirituality, and all that stuff.

hahahahahha. upscale hippie? i think what your talking about is the boho look, just go to any trendy store, they should have it. most typical hippie clothes is handmade, thrift store, or paint.

Wow, I love all these stereotypes of what a hippy is. You know you can still be a hippy and have money. The two aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive.

Good point! But a lot of hippies don't support the type of trendy stores that sell boho stuff though. Reasons being that they rape the land, use sweatshop labour, put across a body image that most people will never be able to achieve, put a buch of stock into the outer apperance instead of the inner, etc. But handmade patchwork clothes can still be expensive (like $50+ for a pair of pants, about like a pair of jeans from Hollister or Abercrombie or something like that) but they will last longer and are handmade so they have several hours in them.

i'm not even sure if hippy clothing even exists. I now only buy clothes from charity shops (i guess you call them "thrift stores" in the US) mainstream and kind of trashy shops here are stocked full of the "gypsy-boho" look but only people who care far too much about their image shop there. And this is not what being a hippy is all about.

Sure, vintage clothes are cool if they're not too expensive, but being a hippy is more about the mentality than a sense of fashion

as to the whole "fake hippy" thing - hey, everyone starts somewhere. maybe the fashion is a starting point, something to trigger the true hippy inside of us. Judging someone as a "fake" is really judgemental and against the example the hippies in the 60's taught us.

    Stay cool,

I'd have to, if I wanted to buy anything that fit...
Luckily, I have a pair of jeans that almost-fit, though I've had to let out the bottom hem, and they're still a little loose, especially by the standards of my high school. If fat doesn't roll over the waistband, it's too loose. No matter how much or little fat you have to roll over.

But if I ever need any new ones, they'll be expensive.

I sure as hell hope I don't anytime soon, I love these jeans!

some of you have been mean to this person who was just asking a question. I don't know where to find "hippie" clothes. I make mine and my children's clothes and go to lots of garage sales, but i would suggest searching the net if you are looking for something in particular. good luck.

ya know what? i say if your a hippy, and you wear clothes, you have hippy clothing since the clothes belong to a hippy. i dont think you need to make your own clothes, i sure as hell never have, though i do want to learn how to make a tye dye but still looking for a web site with directions. if you really badly want some old 60s clothes, just ask a neighbor or something who lived in that time. may not be high end but if it matters alot then you can always just tell people it is. they will never know;)
