I find it ridiculous that over 3/4 of the people believe in an invisible Sky Daddy especially since science and reason took every previous "mystery" once explained by the supernatural and handed it its own ass...several times over. Religion and "Godism" have fucked this world up enough, I think. Get over it, people. There is no invisible man in living in the fucking sky choosing sides over dogmatic stupid ass fucking bullshit. Ok?!? Come to terms with reality already, people. This is 21st century for fuck's sake. The Enlightment happened a long time ago and this religion/godism shit keeps popping back up to retard progress time and time again. We need to just let this shit go! And move the fuck on... For real. -LIBERTINE
Sorry, pal, but every PREVIOUS "mystery" that has been solved, HAS been explained naturally. ZERO have ever been explained to be, indeed, supernatural. That's not dogma, nor is it foolish, it's reality. No volcano gods, no sky gods, no sea gods, etc..etc. Thunder is not the "voice of god", Lightning is not "god's arrows", Stars are not "angels", the earth is not flat, nor is it the center of the universe, nor does the sun revolve around it, the moon is not a "light", and the brain is the central part of the human "make up", not a "soul" (which is ironically nothing more than the psyche anyhow--according to its etymology). Religion and Church has attempted to hold back science and reason, retard human progress and oppress knowledge for centuries, but thankfully RATIONAL THOUGHT and HUMAN AWARENESS evolved and got through it. How this primitive shit keeps popping back up is central to why we have ignorant people in the world today -- leadership who want to control the masses and people who want "something to believe in" and can't handle reality for what it is. SCIENCE, MEDICINE, HUMANISM, AWARENESS all contributed and increased the quality of human life that religious bigots held back so long while they tortured and killed in the name of their "god", be it "Allah", "Yahweh" or whomever invisible fairyman they invented for themselves to please. These gods, ghosts, goblins, trolls, fairies, leprechauns, angels, devils, dragons, satyrs or whatever else the myth makers created and believed in has as much credence as our modern day Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy. In other words: BULLSHIT. 100% PURE. And sadly people are KILLED in the names of these invisible sky daddies. Still. Today. In 2006. The only ones who look foolish are those who deny reality for a fairytale, call science a "religion" or "dogma" and continue to pursue "supernatural" tripe in the face of truth. Cheers!
im going to jump in here. i think whats going on is you're attacking the christian bible and maybe some other creation myths, but refusing to look outside of the bible references. and, more importantly, you dont realize that the bible is metaphorical, and should hardly be used as a basis for scientific thought. but even worse, in your glee to appear "rational", you're making the irrational claim that science has the answer for everything. im not a creationist, so dont worry. i believe in evolution, but in an evolution that was guided and sparked by God. This is something that's entirely compatible with the quran and science. i think you're own dogmatic beliefs are superstitions: the idea that life formed randomly is incredibly naive. there's so many basic things that science cant answer: http://alislam.org/library/books/revelation/part_5_section_4.html I could give more examples, if you'd like. im not going to try to prove that God exists to you, that's a waste of time on the net. but i do want you to realize that science cant possibly have the answers to everything, and that there's a certain order to the universe which can never actually be explained. or you can keep hanging onto your unproven superstitions.
I never said Science has the answer to everything, Ozy. I said that all these previous "mysteries" that HAVE BEEN EXPLAINED, were explained naturally. Science is key to understanding this. Of course, it doesn't have all the answers to all questions. But, it is a far cry from inventing some mysterious myth to explain the already mysterious! That's taking ignorance one step back and doesn't explain anything.
no. this was your first post: qualify your statements then. im all for science and discovery. heck, that's what i do in my life. What impresses me the most about it, is how it continues to reinforce my religious beliefs. its completely compatible with them. the more we know, the more we learn about the universe and ourselves, the more fascinating the questions become. but at its core, there's a certain simplicity to everything, a logic that no scientist can simply explain as "Random". i dont believe in chance, i find that to be superstitious. i do believe in the creation story of the Quran, because it's a story that's completely compatible with all of our understanding of evolution. and i ask myself, how anyone could have come up with something like that 1300 years ago, if it wasnt revealed by God. normally, i would ignore these sorts of posts, and in all honesty, i dislike preaching about religion. but i think the way in which you started attacking all religions and all creation stories was simply silly. thank you
Science doesn't have the answer to every question/mystery...yet it has explained every previous mystery? What you mean is that it has explained some things, somewhat. And other things it has not explained or has not investigated. Human beings have the ability to reason, and they apply this, naturally, to nature. If you paint a picture with a green sky, someone may ask, "Why is the sky green?" You can go on to describe the anatomy of the pigment and the paper, but this does nothing to explain why the sky is green. So why is the sky blue? This question has never been answered to my satisfaction. I see you as living in the dark ages. Not intended as an insult, just that all science is doing is measuring and labeling a reality that is essentially poetic and whimsical, not mathematical, in nature. It strikes me as an absurdly desperate way to live. Really you're as much a Goddite as any of us believers. A person who wanted nothing to do with God would just not talk about it/think about it. You are hooked, though. And really all you're doing with these arguments is to strengthen our belief, because we will always find a way around them. That's what happens when you're dealing with something you can't disprove. So if you want to talk about futile crusades...there you go. You're on one.
Another fine message brought to you by the Church of Libertine! I'll be tuning in next week to see what's new from the Reverend of Rebellion, the Harrasser of Hypocrites, the Preacher of Proper Logic, the Speaker of Sin, the Prophet of Progression, the God of Godlessness - our own Libertine himself! Woo! (I'm in a dramatic mood I guess...)
Bless Your Heart, Sister Sera. It is obvious that there is no reason to believe in sky daddies and that ENTIRE foundation of such is built entirely on the appeal to push ignorance back one step. "We can't explain it (yet), thus God did it!" This horrible excuse is what science and reason have destroyed. We no longer believe in thunder being the "voice of God" or volcanoes being the "wrath" of some mountain god, or hurricanes the vengeance of the gods of the seas...etc..etc. Why should the Middle Eastern (Jewish/Arabic) fairy stories be treated any differently? There is ZERO OBJECTIVE evidence for a Sky Daddy. ZERO. If there be any evidence which proves Sky Daddy beyond a shadow of doubt without resorting to "mysterious" or "unexplained" phenomena, I'd like to hear it. And "feeling it in my heart" doesn't quite cut it for objective evidence. Theism makes a statement and tries to fit what it finds into that box. It rejects that which doesn't or manipulates it to squeeze the square block in the round hole. Science and history have shown that the unexplained doesn't mean it is inexplicable and CERTAINLY doesn't mean we should attribute it to "supernaturalism". As a magician (showman, not warlock...) I find the gullibility of even the sharpest mind is astounding. I know from dealing with these people firsthand. They can claim artifacts. They can claim vague prophecy fulfillment. They can claim they "felt it". They can claim a lot of shit, but it doesn't jell. It all boils down to the UNEXPLAINED and the whole "faith" in such WISH that there is a Heavenly Father looking down at his children...watching us kill each other. I don't deify science. I don't believe in deities. I know theists love to believe everyone thinks with their frame of thought--but it's not so.
This is total bullshit. Return your frame of mind, for a second, back to the experiment done that attempted to recreate Earth's original primordial soup state. Shocks of lightning (common during that state) caused molecules to begin forming in chains, and eventually little balls. You say proteins cannot be formed without DNA? That's a load of crap. The researchers that ran the shocks of lighting OBSERVED the creation of amino acids, which in turn created the proteins. You didn't think that DNA always created proteins, did you? To answer your quesiton of which came first, the protein or the DNA, it is the protein that came first, and the DNA that came later. This can be witnessed along with the progression of evolution -- simple single-celled organisms have simple DNA -- simple enough for humans to mess around with, in order to produce things like bacteria which consume oil. All the while, complex organisms like humans have DNA that we are only *beginning* to tap into. Look at viruses -- they're quite literally bags of protein that travel around. No DNA, no RNA, and yet sometimes they are almost considered to be alive, because they reproduce, and parasitically metabolize. It would be foolish to think that proteins cannot form without DNA. Perhaps the human body cannot PRODUCE specific proteins without DNA, but that doesn't mean they can't form at all. This is evident in the vitamins that we need to consume because our bodies can't produce them -- whereas vitamins such as vitamin K can be produced -- that's why you never hear about it, because it's not necessary to worry about it.
It's about time you arrived Hikky, I thought I was in a handicapped match here with two theists. Ol' Libertine fighting 'em on everyside... *lol*
okaaaaay. anyways: QUOTE=Hikaru Zero]This is total bullshit. [/QUOTE]no, it was an unfortunate mix of words. proteins cannot be made without nucleic acids (which are the building blocks of DNA). look i dont have time to summarize all these points so im going to do the scorned approach of cutting an pasting from some journal articles: at least im not claiming this as my own: http://www.grisda.org/origins/20045.htm what about RNA? Even if RNA were produced, there would still be no life. The importance of RNA to the origin of life is based on the conjecture that it could act both as a source of information and as a catalyst to use that information. But RNA must be folded to act as a catalyst, and must be unfolded to act as a source of information. http://www.grisda.org/origins/20045.htm now for the experiment: http://www.theapologiaproject.org/DNA%20Design.pdf there are a lot more of these kinds of questions, that no one can answer and i have a hard time "believing" it was all random.
Alright, who believes in Zeus then? Don't be shy now. I asume that about 3/4 of you believe in him, come on now lets hear it, who's a Zeus fan? Seriously though, I live on planet earth. Apparently Libertine lives in fantasy land where 3/4 of the population believe in Zeus, or Shu, or Jupiter, or Tenjin, or some such sky deity. Now if sombody wants to believe in any or all of those then it is their right to do so, and I'm sure that some do believe in them. However, what I find hard to believe is that more than 4.5 billion people believe in them. So without further ado I ask you Libertine, where did you get your data on this one? I believe that it is incorrect. I leave you with the definiton of the word "metaphor" http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=metaphor
No, I deny that the vast majority of the world's population believes in a sky deity. And you would be hard pressed to demonstrate your claim that they do.
you know how scientific theories are never proven right?............ they just haven't been proven wrong yet, but they are excepted as "truths" by many many people. when you take science classes they always stress that about theories. there are no absolute truths in science. same thing with religion..... it can't be proven true, but it hasn't been proven false either has it? and billions of people they believe it anyway, just like so many people believe in scientific theories. what makes sense to some people doesn't make sense to others, and vice versa, so leave other people's opinions and beliefs to themselves, and learn to be a little more tolerant.
