There's a reason why I posted this thread in the Fashion and Crafts forum as opposed to anywhere else, it's because I feel it most evident here.

The Fiber Arts subforum is taking away from the Knitty Gritty forum, specifically. There are other crafty personal forums that aren't getting a lot of traffic either, and it's getting harder to get traffic there when we keep "improving" the forums here by wallpapering them with stickys and subforums.

What's the point of having a paid membership here and having personal forums when we stick everything in subforums? Can't we replace subforums with the personal forums that are already running?

To be honest I'm not too keen to where Hipforums is going, and often wonder why I bother to sponsor this site when it's not only censoring people's threads by closing the ones that moderators deem 'unnecessary' but also with this whole subforum/personal forum issue.

IF I WANTED MY THREADS IN A SUBFORUM, I'D PUT THEM THERE.

I'm also a bit weirded by how COMMERCIAL this site is getting. How 'hippy' is it really to start marketing it? Have we become industrial narks, commercial whores? Or am I the only one bothered by this? The only way to be part of this site is if we pay for it... but with all the banners going up, aren't the sponsors already paying for the site? Now that we have a whole forum dedicated to stores, aren't THEY paying for it?

Hipforums is becoming a mini mall... I'm no longer bringing money to this site, and debating whether to stay here at all anyway.

i don't care for these new sub forums at all, either.
Not so much for the personal forums, as i don't have one and don't really share your outrage, but i think that in the fashion and craft areas, all the crafty people have been divided up. It used to feel like you could show any of your cool new creations where everyone could see them....now you have to go hunting to find them.
I don't know if it's just me, but more and more crafty people seem to be disapearing from here.....it's sad. I used to love coming to this forum to admire all the amazing things people would make....there used to be something new every time that I came on here.....now there's hardly anything new.....
It just felt more 'united' before.....I kinda wish it would go back to the way it was.

^What SuperMommy said. I like being able to see all the recently-posted on threads on one page, not have to scroll through a page for each specific type of craft to find a new post.

It is frustrating - glad to see it's not just me. This forum especially used to be a really creative outlet... now it holds as much drivel as all the other forums.... blah.

    hm

    interesting point

in the quest for an alternative lifestyle, a lot of hippies that i've known thru the ages have been very money focused. i dont really think it's anything new.

i havent really checked out any of the subforums yet. so much to read, so little time...

i dont like it either. i can see the need for a little seperation, just because some times people questions get flooded out with pictures (not that i have anything against pics). but we should let the personal forums do that. it would be nice if in here we could have links to the other crafty personal forums.

I didn't start any subforum, I made a PERSONAL FORUM - the knitty gritty under another handle. My posts were moved there by the moderators who control the forum.

i agree tons here. I dispise the sub forums in fashion and crafts. Everything is too divided. I never saw a problem at all with how they were running before. It's not like we were getting 2 pages worth of new threads daily. I don't appreciate having to go from sub forums to sub forum to see if anything new has been posted. It's annoying. What's the deal?

I sort of agree with what a lot of you are saying. It is too hard to find the new posts with all the subdivisions. The way it was you could scroll through the posts and decide what you want to read. Now you have to open like 10 different subforums and then scroll through to only find out that there are no posts anyway. To be honest I don't read this forum as much as I used to.

I have seen some boards where there were sub-forums and the user could choose:

1)open a forum and see a list of sub-forums followed by main forum threads (as hipforums is now)

2)open a forum and see all threads as if there were no sub-forums.

I don't know if Skip's software supports this option.

About the Hip Forum's commercialism, someone has to pay the bills. Its an old hippy problem that even when everything is free, someone has to pay for it.
    The ads don't bother me.
The links to personal sites on the F&C forum seem OK. (The "no links in sigs" rule is one of those situations where a small number of abusers can make things miserable for a lot of people and the solution makes the problem solver seem petty. (Someone has to be hall monitor. Thanks for volunteering, Skip)
The addition of "hip shops" forum was done with a style that I can ignore them when I want to.

Maybe it's because I'm new, but I don't seem to mind the subforums so much. It's nice to have everything recategorized. And as far as personal forums are concerned, I haven't posted there yet but I think they may be just for more personal things, I don't know if that makes sense. Maybe the thinking was to better categorize all the threads in here? Many seemed moved.

ahem, cerridwen/wooden_bead_necklace, did you know that there's a rule that says:

    Multiple Personalities:
Although we allow you to register multiple personalities, you may not use more than one personality in a single thread.
