her hair will definitely lock, but just realize - they're not always comfortable. sometimes they pull. you know that feeling when it seems that just one tiny string of hair is pulling? sometimes it feels like that. they can also get quite heavy. but hey, cut em out if they bother her. she'll look beautiful regardless.

If that's what she wants, then I'd do it for her.
Just let her know backcombing is NOT comfortable. WHen I got mine started I have to say it hurt. let her know it will hurt for a while so there are no surprises. I am a big fan of letting kids express themselves like this.

yeah, definitely explain to her the process of backcombing (if that's your angle). I kept asking DD if she still wanted dreads after I started backcombing, just to be sure. All the backcombing fell out before her hair started to knot up good anyway, kinda wish I'd just let it go natural.

IMHO, | think she would be a ton off better without locks. But if she wants them, |would just figure it's her hair. So, yeah! Go ahead!

yeh, J wants yellow dreads.... but mostly that's because I dyed my hair purple last fall (it's sorta faded to dark pink now). We've made it past four months now, and her hair is finally knotting up good and tight. It's messy as hell. But it's finally becoming dreadlocks! We started with about thirty little ponytails. And then I started backcombing them, one at a time. Took a month to get them all done, and then they all came loose and I started backcombing some more but it did no good. Now, then, four months later, she has lost about half the length of her hair, some locks seem to have lost 2/3 the original length, and she has some for-real dreads going on!!

Yeah she probably wants them pink since its her fave color and she sees me with my bright purple hair, lol,,, but its so hard not to cave,,, i think im gonna let her get em soon ,, when she gets out of school for summer vacation if she still wants them,,, i m not mentioning them to her to see if the idea is just a phase or if she really honestly wants her hair in dreads,,,
