Weed makes me goal orientated

Discussion in 'Cannabis and Marijuana' started by Lying in a field, Apr 13, 2006.

  1. Does anyone else find that when you're stoned, everything that you need, want or intend to do suddenly carries the weight of all the importance in the universe. For example, when you get the munchies, does going down to the pizza bar or the supermarket seem like some important military style mission where the fate of life itself depends on it, and at that time, does the "goal" of getting the pizza, chocolate whatever, seem utmost? Or, when you are having a philisophical discussion in your brain or with someone else, do certain riddles all of a sudden give you an intense desire to search for the one and absolute answer to this existential dilemma, and then when you have found the answer or what you think it is, do you feel like you have achieved some sort of great victory over your own life?

In short........does weed make you believe certain things are "incredibly important" where in a normal state, you wouldn't think otherwise?

ummm.... sure. it may increase motivation to get things that you want, i guess, but if you want to do well in school and stay motivated, that is a completely different fucking story

I thought that marijuana use was supposed to give you amotivation syndrome where you are basically super lazy. I do however read better when im high it just makes reading a book more interesting than normally.

^^ Depends what weed your smoking.

Yeah I get that alot, and its like I have to accomplish that task to make my high complete. For example its been a goal of mine to see the aurora borealis while stoned for many years, so when I toke at night sometimes I'll go for a walk to see if they're out.
I had no luck until last night, when we where chilling on a bench in a park around 2 in the morning and all of a sudden there they are! It was probably one the most amazing things I've seen in a long time, I felt like I accomplished something in my life. Another checkmark on my list of things to do before I die.

But I know what you mean, some things as miniscule as say, cleaning your room can take on the highest meaning, and must be done then and there. Which I think is a good thing, gets you active.

weed makes the motivations that surface in the moment direct your thought patterns, whereas normally, most of the things we do are based on contructed habits, obligations, and indirectly acomplishable motivations which hang around and affect what you think about. when you get rid of constructs and prejudices (in thought and in motivation), what is left is the instant desire or experience.

unless you liked schoolwork, the motivation to do schoolwork is based on indirect motivations: to do what youre 'meant' to do in order to succeed later, to avoid being a dropout, to get the right marks to do a certain degree, to appease your parents, to make sure you dont get in trouble from teachers, to simply be ahead of your peers, etc.

motivation for munchies is totally direct: going to buy munchies so that you can eat the munchies and therefor satisfy your moment's urge for food, which is clearly totally inthe moment, because there is no theoretical futuristic investment involved (unlike school or work - investing time and effort in order to get options in the future, with no guarantees of course).

    hope that makes sense

put simply, your thoughts and desires are no longer formed on base things, they're focused on the temporary and instant, surface things
everything is autonomous, and if its not, you dont have the desire to do it

doesnt have to be surface at all, it could be really complexly abstract but still a direct desire/impulse. leading to very random actions/words ;)

I know exactly what you are talking about. I get so passionate about things when i am high, it seems like i have a much clearer sense of what i want and how to go about doing it. Thoughts and emotions flow very fluidly and everything i read or see or hear or smell has all these other thoughts attached to them, like latent memories being releases in tiny amounts. A very nostalgic feeling about everything...

I also think that because THC is a mild psychedelic you act within your imagination a lot more, and so things seem much more fantastic.

funny thing about weed passion is that you can totally forget about it as soon as youre distracted.. once again because the impulse was only in that instant, and once you forget about actign on the impulse, you forget what the impulse was.

Ever get a hold of any "cleaning weed"? You know, you get stoned and after about 10 minutes or so you start cleaning your apartment, general straightening up, and doing things you've been meaning to do for awhile.

Yeah, weed does have varying effects. Sometimes I can focus on work for a couple hours straight and just "get into it."

Well, for me... it depends on the weed i'm chiefin' on!

For example, I get REALLY stoned off of blunts. I guess you'd call it gettin' BLUNTED. Not the energtic, have philospical talks about Big Bird, do the dishes, high.. but totally fucking BLUNTED. Like just lie-on-the-floor-passed-out-doing-nothing baked. I guess it's the damn schwag.

But dank... oh dank. if i gotta get somethin' done, like my term paper! I'll smoke a bunch of dank weed outta a vape, or a bong or something, and for the first couple of minutes, yeah i'm "Duhhhhhhhh" baked, but then once that passes, i have the motivation to DO something. Be it homework, cleaning my house, whatever.

    Which is good.

Yes, I always go on a mission to get something, but then when I think about what I am doing and how much attention I am paying to completing the task, I laugh at how ridiculous it is.

    sir

i concur with what you are saying. in fact i have thought about this before, and i wish to share my opinions with you.

i would share my opinions with you, but at the moment i am too goal oriented towards this music that's playing and i need to turn it up

i hope all goes well with you, sir. may we meet again.

man, when i lived on the east coast, i used to go on journies with my friend when we got high. we would walk/hitchhike 30 miles up to these clay cliffs just to look at 'em, then go back. it was always harder to catch a ride back when it was getting dark and you were losing your buzz!
