Used to love metallica when I was younger. Not keen on their new stuff, but pre-black album stuff was bloody immense... "orion" need I say more?

They're damn good. Wherever I may Roam is a great American song.

they really sorta fucked themselves, by making everything after their first 2 or 3 albums sound the same. at least it does to me.

They were great before they went grunge in the 90's. And Justice for All was the last good album I think. They were great in concert back then, saw them a few times. I absolutely hate their music that came after.

I loved them back in the day. They did always put on a good show. I just don't like anything they've come out with in a long time.

people please, the black album is awesome, even if it's not "intense" or as thrash as the earlier stuff. load and reload are still ok, and i even like st anger. sure, it's very different, but you still know it's metallica, and it's still better than most of the shit out there these days.

metallica are still fantastic live, for anyone that's bothered to see them.

also, if they made RTL or MOP another 5 times, people would be saying they're stuck in the 80's and can't progress and evolve as a band. they change, and people bitch about how they're "sell outs".

Well, that's your opinion. I'd love to see another album that's in the same style like Ride the lightning or Master of puppets. I agree with you that the black album and Load are pretty listenable though. But not quite my kind of thing, and after the Black album they really started screwing their good name. They're just posers now and they sold out big time.

I mean with selling out that they've made albums with music with a large market for it. It's just a whole other kind of music. Unfortunately they're not only sold out with their sound, they became a band of wealthy posers. Check the albumbooklet for Load for a good example. They left their old statements behind and so kind of fucked their fans.
Of course these things are a lot eassier to feel ok with if you like their nowadays sound, but I don't have that joy.

i think what was so great about old school metallica was there straight up raw in your face metal made for one thing to kick ass and they deffinatly got more commercial over the years so there rawness started becoming a more clean sound which took alot of there energy i think. i saw them about a year or so ago and they still kicked ass as a live band they didnt play any st. anger
