i just applied to work at the 10,000 lakes fest in minnesota. seems like a good way to see that 'foreign' state!
I have been a volunteer at The Philly Folk Fest many times. You will have alot of fun as a volunteer.
it's too bad though, that the shifts are so long. i signed up for the 7am to 7 pm one so that i could catch the late night shows, but it does seem a bit intense.
My best friend works at festies every year. Friends and I go see her while shes working, but I wouldnt advise that less the person has been working there many years. She always works at Harley Rondvous here in NY, then for Gathering of the Vibes and then soon after for Max Creek. She loves it and just parties after her shift is done. She may have even been drinkin a few on the job......lol but IM not sayin nothin........lol There awesome shows to go to and bc u are workin....u get to get in for free and enjoy afterwards. They are loooooooong hours though but for her it was just doing gates and stuff so it wasnt that hard of a job. Make u good money in a short amount of time. I think that in order to work Gathering of the Vibes and Max Creek at Indian Lookout camp in Mariahville, NY u have to...have worked the Harley Rondevous though. Thats what she told me. If ur lookin to work these apply now. Spots are gonna be takin FAST. Peace all hope that helped u. www.dawnson64.piczo.com
yea.. but hell the benefits are great.. you get your free ticket and camping pass... and you still get paid... i also signed up for morning shifts.. figuring i could still get to all the music.. 3rd shift would suck
I've volunteered at Festivals. I've been paid for working at Festivals. I'm currently working on a Festival. (WEF needs volunteers if you are in the area.) Its a great experience. I recomend that you bring your own cup. Keep it with you at all times. I wear a small belly bag at all times. The cup, gloves, smokes, lighter (spare in your pocket), notepad, sharpie, ballpoint, and chapstick are always useful. Add a spoon and chopsticks to the pile and (with the cup) you are always ready to eat whatever is avaliable. Wear a hat with a brim. Sunscreen. One fun thing about being a volunteer is that it gives you a chance to treat people the way you think a crowd should be treated. DRINK WATER, EAT FOOD. Coffee is not water, cigarettes are not food. Be a good example to the crowd by enjoying yourself while you work. If it ain't fun, you're doing it wrong. Designate one of your pockets to hold the small trash you pick-up until you can get to a trash can. (I've also trained volunteers, does it show?) Have Fun!
i have been working at magnolia fest & springfest for a couple of years, i am a chef back stage for the musicians, it is a good experience.
12 hours in one go looks long. Planet Bluegrass for its Lyons festivals (not sure on Telluride) require 3 hours on each day of the fest, but no camping paid and you actually pay $8 plus your camping when all is said and done.
yea... they do seem like some long ass shifts... but i guess they look at it like if it was 3hr shifts.. they'd have to hire and depend on a lot more people than just hiring people to work 8-12hr shifts... the 12hr shifts seem easier.. its just ticket sales and such... but i opted for 8hr shifts... no way i could work 12hrs and try and party...
ive worked at festies. i think im gonna apply for 10K right now. i usually like to get in on the parking crew before the show, cus you dont miss any music and you get to meet a bunch of kids on the way in. i can usually scam a beer or two of of them to, makes the work go by quicker.
