We just adopted this big guy from a friend who couldn't handle his medical problems any longer. He has cataracts, dermatitis/yeast infection, and tear production problems in 1 eye. I'm giving him vit. E for his eyes, acidopholis for his infection, brewers yeast, and using pure aloe on his raw areas from infection... English Bulldogges are soo expensive to care for so I'm trying to use natural remedies..anyone have any experience with bullies ????His odor is terrible ..he's being bathed with KetoChlor 2 times a week that the vet prescribed but i was wondering if somene knew something different. Can a vinegar solution be used to neutralize the odor on raw skin..i think it might burn...i don't know.Help, He's so mellow and cool I want him to be comfortable anf happy
I would not put vinager in raw skin. that would burn and irritate it further. im sure a vet would prescribe some medicated lotion for him. good luck...he is adorable and probably very happy to have been adopted by a family that will love him and care for him despite his problems.
Aloe vera works wonders for skin problems. My brothers staffie had really bad eczema. One of our clients imports aloe vera shampoo from Germany. I bought a bottle, used it over 3 weeks and his skin problem was no more.
There is a shop that has a bulldog that hangs around in the shop. His name is Elvis and he is very friendly. He smells though. I wonder why...do most bulldog smell bad? We have a dog and he smells good (not a bulldog). I really hope he gets better. I am sure he appreciates your kindness for taking him in.

Thanks eveyone~ His name on his akc papers is Rocco Maximus, Probably not a name I would have picked but it suits him well . fgwolf~ thanks for the links ~ his eye is red because of KCS-dryeye. Cherry eye is a protruding gland. He recieves an ointment 3 times a day in that eye, yesterday 1 of my cats scratched him right there and cut him badly ~ poor guy! My new "natural" healthcare regimen is a mixture of tea tree oil, warm water and acidophilus - tea tree for fungus- acidophilus for bacteria/yeast- aloe -for his neck. I'm giving him Vitamin E , it may deter the cataracts from developing further. Brewers Yeast is a must for any animal (imo) for healthy skin and parasite control. I've heard it can treat dermatitis as well. Anyways, I've done a lot of research this week ~ what I've been doing is showing remarkable signs of improvement ~ thank you all again!
Good for you taking in an animal who clearly needs a lot of attention and possibly a lot of money. My pup is now 12 yrs. old and has had problems since she was 5. Chronic ear infections, food allergies, skin infections/allergies, etc.....Keep up with the acidophilus it'll be good to ward off yeast infections and good for his digestive system. My pup gets super smelly when she starts developing a bacterial skin infection so I always know when it's time to take her back in for another round of antibiotics and the vets always confirm this. My friend also told me her puppy smelled right before he died so I think when they get sick they emit a foul odor. Just another option for you to think about. Best of luck to you and your new pup!
Hey! Something else that you want to look into (maybe you already have) is a high quality food. It can be so important. Skin problems are often related to poor quality foods, or existing skin conditions can be exacerbated by the foods. Avoid grocery store foods, if you can. Look at this site: www.dogfoodproject.com Its got TONS of good info about foods. I've got my Newfoundland mix on Wysong (www.wysong.net) and its really helped with his itchy skin due to food allergies. In any case, just wanted to throw that out there! Sounds like the other stuff you're doing is really great, too!
Thanks, I had already thought of that ~ his last owners had him on Dads.....I spoke to a specialist and am getting him tested for food/ enviromental allergies (when I can afford it [$400+]) Eeek!-def. worth it though in the long run!
