Afrocelt Sound System Kodo Hart's Drumming at the ... series Ellis Paul Joel Raphael Don Conoscenti (if you like Kottke's guitar, you'll like Don's)
During the late 70's and early 80's when I was listening to Leo Kottke, another favourite was Larry Coryell - very similar, very experimental. I don't know what period of Kottke you are referring to, so I may be pointing you in the wrong direction. Through those two I got into jazz accoustic guitar, (notably Django Reinhardt). I also revisited the singer songwriter albums I had from the sixties and seventies, and found some of those guys could really play. Paul Simon, for instance, came over to the UK in the early sixties to study the style of guitar playing exemplified by Davey Graham - he even plays a Davey Graham piece on one of the early Simon & Garfunkel albums. The English folk scene threw up the likes of John Renbourn & Bert Jansch. It's also worthwhile giving an airing to Ry Cooder \Little Feat albums from the 70's period - there are some ace players on both acoustic, national steel and slide guitar that are worth the album price alone. I won't touch on rock\electric guitar - there are so many non-mainstream bands that never made it big, but have the odd gem tucked away. And if you are into the Afro-celtic sound system , give Manu Chao a listen for a similar high level of exuberance and joy in their playing - I'm afaid I can only judge from video's of their live performances, so don't shoot me if either produce dirge like recordings!!!!!!!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/events/cambridge2004/video.shtml The link has some concert footage of Afro-celt, as well as the likes of Steve Earle - its got me bopping round the room just watching it. If you put Manu Chao in to Google - you should find the web-site fairly easily - but it seems to be constantly changing in content.
thanks drummin mama, i have heard a few of the artists you mentioned, such as michael hedges, sound tribe, signal path, and ofcourse keller williams and a few others, but i will continue to look for the others. thanks a lot.
