You won't catch me at the movie theatre because I'm afraid that "they" will use their 50ft screen and dolby surround sound to bore into the inner creases of my mind, forcing me to believe their bullshit, promote their propaganda, or turn me into a mindless zombie consumed with the need to drive a Volvo. "They" will never get their hands on me! This is why I will not set FOOT in a movie theatre!!!! or maybe its the insane price of tickets combined with my constant brokeness either way, DOWN WITH THEATRES!!!!! Who's with me?
I took my bicycle to a drive in a cpl weeks ago. It was cool. I roled up my sleeping bag and made a recliner out of it. I likes going to theaters, I usually try to hit the first matinee on a weekday so I have the place all to myself. So no, can't back you on this one. I don't watch Tv though.
Generally I find there is about 1 movie a year that piques my interest enough to go to the theatre. This year its actually been two - Passion of the Christ and Farenheit 9/11. I don't know, as much as the big screen IMAX theatres are cool and all, really I can't stand even the most comfortable theatre seats - my ass usually falls asleep. I prefer to sit at home and watch movies on DVD.
the main thing that keeps me out of movie houses is the price of admission. not that there's THAT many i'm all that interested in but every once in a while there are a few. the main thing that keeps me from turning on the tv on the other hand is that 95% of what is on there and the way it is presented is personaly depressing to me. if i had the price of cable i'd spend it on upgrading my computer and a better internet connection, that and or more tools and things to make things with, not that there aren't cool things on cable, just other things in life that are worth more to me. same reason i can't see buying a playstation or an x-box or a car for that matter, unless and untill if i ever have a piece of land out in the boonies somewhere where i would ligitimately need some kind of vehicule to get there and and haul things out there to it. =^^= .../\...
You're not missing anything, most if not all of the movies today are no where near worth paying $8 a ticket. The last movie I saw in the theatre was The Matrix, but I still thought I wasted my money.
I am not a big fan of movie theatres myself. I think they're a rip-off, really. When I do go to the movies, I aim for independent films. I don't like high-budget Hollywood movies, though I do plan on seeing the Manchurian Candidate next week sometime.
I watch a lot of DVDs but I rarely go to the theaters..... last time I went I ended up kicking a large pop down the stairs I was disappointed cause I was thirsty and I didnt have anything to drink after that
I don't mind going to the movies now and then, I agree it is too costly to go often though. Some movies are just better seen in a theater however. Like Fahrenheit 9/11, the presence of a large group of (most likely) like-minded people added to the experience.
I haven't been to a movie theater in about 14 months. I've been in Japan since last October, and I don't know if I'll ever go to a movie theater here in Japan because they're so fuckin' expensive. Even in America, I only went to the movies if I was so only super interested in the film.
I like your way of thinking! But surely cinema advertising is no different to any other kind of advertising? Advertising is on TV, in shops, played over loudspeakers in shops, in shop windows as you walk by, and all over public transport and commercial vehicles. There's nothing you can do to avoid being "brainwashed" other than to keep your mind strong and open. I go to the cinema now and then, and I've never bought anything I saw an advert for. The only stuff I buy is things I decide I want, and I always buy second-hand out of principle. Everything is ludicrously over-priced here in the UK. On the rare occasion that something new comes out that I like the look of, I will wait a few years until I can get it cheap second hand. If I want a drink in the cinema I will go looking for a nearby shop that sells cheaper drinks rather than buy one from the cinema, which charges about three to four times normal price. I'm a person of principle. You seem to be, too, Fontella, although I think you're also maybe a little paranoid.
