I've only heard their biggest hot song from 1982, "Eye In the Sky" which is a very good prog song. Great early 80's progressive rock.
why does everything out of your mouth involve progressive rock?? I think you use that term loosely..... anyways, I guess you can consider APP as prog, its better than calling the smashing pumpkins that. yeah, anyways, eye in the sky is a killer song..... one of my faves. and remember, alan parsons worked on pink floyd's dark side of the moon. he was the only one who received an academy award on DSOTM for his technician work in the studio.
That's true. I have been doing a lot of reflection on progressive rock and figured that these bands many of them are influenced or have elements of prog but are not the real progressive rock. The real prog is bands like Yes and ELO, bands that make very conceptual albums. But also the way music has progressed it is gets a bit cloudy sometimes in definiing a band as having a progressive rock style. Also progressive rock is really a 70's thing and thus that is the decade one must look for what real progressive rock is.
Some of their stuff is too early-80's-trippy-keyboard for me (my 7 year old LOVES it), but they were a great, very progressive band. My fave is "Time". Always gets me misty and nostalgic. Wow.
I have the album "Pyramid"... it's okay, not too flash. Have to get a few of their other albums to form a better opinion. I remember that song "Turn Of A Friendly Card", that was okay, but pretty daggy at the same time. I definitely wouldn't play any Alan Parsons Project in front of anyone.
i like pyramid and tales edgar allan poe better, (70s)... edgar allan poe one is the proggiest. but i dont find Alan parsons that progressive, its more art-rock and a bit pop.
Genesis chaop 32 verse something.........you all know the song is the best APP Song.....needs to be longer thought, it faades to early its interesting that APP has a song called Time, and he was the engineer for DSOTM.
This "group" is among my favorites. Alan Parsons is a musical genious. I would actually classify their music as 'progressive' with some 'classical' and 'art-rock' (though-obviously-not like Rush) elements thrown in. I have all of their albums (on CD) from 'Eve' through 'Vulture Culture'. While I enjoy all of them, I probably like 'Turn Of A Friendly Card' and 'Ammonia Avenue' the best. In a perhaps odd way, I find that their music can contain an inspirational message.
Tales of Mystery and the Imagination and I Robot are excellent, proggish albums, and many others are very good pop albums. I like his stuff. Smooth!
