Well, I just got back from rehab on Friday. I was living out in the desert for 42 days without any conveniences including lighters, tents, or back packs. It was a really eye opening experience and has definitely helped me with my depression and anxiety. I have also decided to stop drinking. Yet, I still feel as though marijuana is not all that bad for you and I have told my views to everybody there. So, even the people at rehab didn't really have a problem with me smoking weed. However, right now I'm not gonna smoke for at least a month cuz I wanna get my life back in order.

It's very important to get your life back together. Major kudos to you for successfully stepping forward with your life and putting things like smoking in their proper perspective.

I hope you weren't as miserable as those kids in that tundra-based rehab show looked and sounded.

I went there mostly for because I was diagnosed with severe anxiety, severe anxiety, really high levels of stress, low self esteem. All that stuff led me to drink like a mofo and skip most of my classes at college. I basically just stayed in my room watching tv or online so that I wouldn't have to think about how much life sucked. I would also sleep like 15 hours a day and then at night I'd go out and get drunk. Then I made my occasional smokin a daily thing. I got to the point where I just hated life and then after my parents saw my grades I decided that I needed help. So I went to an outdoor therapy program in Arizona known as Anasazi. While I was out there I realized that I only drank and smoked as a self medication because my anti depressants weren't doing anything to help me. So I figured that I'd rather be stoned than think about suicide all day. I also learned a lot more about myself and just how much I really don't enjoy drinking anymore. It basically became a chore which I felt compelled to do. So I'm not gonna have a drink until New Years and after that I'm gonna try and make sure to only drink a little bit and not get black out drunk for most of the days in the week anymore. However, I still enjoy pot and I just want it to be my glass of wine or two in order to relax on my weekends. Also, marijuana is no where near as bad as alcohol so I figured I might as well stick with what I enjoy more and is better for. And there is no way that I can say rehab sux cuz I actually enjoyed my time out there, and it changed my life for the better.

When I was out there we were in a national forest in Arizona so there were rivers and everything. Everything that we carried on our backs is what we had. We had to make backpacks outs of old army issue panchos/tarps. We also used those tarps to make shelters if it rained or snowed (and I did get over two feet of snow in three days out there). Then we had a sleeping bag, just a few spare clothes, food, and whatever we could pic up. So basically I didn't shower or shave for 42 days and wiped my ass with rocks whenever we ran out of TP. What I missed the most out there was the food because every week we'd only be given:
    Soy Bacon Bits
    Baking Soda
    Brown Sugar
    Bouillon
    Powdered Butter
    Powdered Cheese
    Crappy Cornmeal
    Weat Flour
    Generic Tang
    Lentils
    A little bit of macoroni
    Powdered Milk
    Oats
    Raisins
Brown rice (which took over an hour to cook)
    Salt
Sunflower Seeds (which were basically a laxative)
    Sun Dried tomatoes
    One potato
    Two carrots
    One onion
    One garlic
    One apple.

Then we only had one small aluminum cup for all 42 days to cook that in. And to make a fire we had to rub sticks together to start it because we didn't have matches or a lighter.

Then every week we would hike somewhere around 20 miles. But most of this wasnt on a trail so it was basically bush wacking over mountains.

It may sound pretty rough, but everything there is your choice and they don't force you to do anything down there either. Also everybody who works there is way chill so I had a really good time. But what I learned down there is that the only way you are really gonna change is if you want to change.

That's pretty much the bottom line. I kinda feel like a lot of people just believe that they can take a drug and it will solve their problems, or they can use the courts to blame their problems on other people. And in turn society just gives them drugs when they ask for them or gives them money if they hire a better lawyer than the other person.

Glad to hear it proved to be a learning experience. Roughing it can be a good time, I'm looking forward to backpacking this summer. Getting out in the woods does a lot of good to clear your head and center yourself.

this doesnt really have to do with this but im wondering why did you stay out there for 42 days and not like 40 or 50 or 23 why did you pick 42 or is that just how long the program was?

It might've been one of those graduated level programs where it takes as long as it takes you to progress through each level.

42 days is six weeks. For kids under 18 the therapists and parents can decide to extend their kids by weekly increments. However, they only extend the kids if they feel that they still haven't really helped themselves out yet, or if they still haven't finished somethings so that they can receive high school credit.
