    why not cats?

dogs, think that people r dogs. their master is the leader of the pack to which they belong

cats that r raised as kittens reach a rather odd conclusion about themselves. such cats perceive themselves as human. since they r human, subservience is out of the question...cats treat people as equals...

Cats do seem to think they're human. And boy do they ever act it. That's why I like them so much. They've got tons of personality.

cats act so snooty and like they know what's going on, but really they are quite dumb. i like cats, they're pretty and soft and fun to play with...but they're dim bulbs. many dogs, on the other hand, are quite intelligent. here's an example: we have a dog and a cat and we like to play with them with the laser pointer. the cat chases and chases the light without ever looking up. the dog looks at the point and then looks up at the pointer, and me. HE knows where the little light is coming from.

Cat's became Man's friend before dogs, didn't they? Egyptians didn't have "working cats"!

Dogs seem to have crept into our hearts and homes from originally being used for work..

My cat is an idiot. I love him to death, but I think he's bipolar. One second he's being all lovey dovey and the next second he's attacking your arm.

    I think he has issues.

Normally, I'm a dog person, but cats are great too!

my cats are so awesome. i love dogs, too, but we moved too much to have had a dog for a while now. dogs are much higher maintenance, they need so much more from you. so i have cats that follow me everywhere, play fetch, don't make too much noise, and one who babysits my older daughter for me. the only problem is tht she thinks that kai's bed is her's, too, so they fight over the pillow all night long. no matter where we are, our cats are there. if i have to walk to the mailbox, my cats follow along right behind us. if kai gets to far from me, dishes herds her back to me.

as for being stupid, dishes is pretty damned smart. she's like lassie, i swear. she practically speaks.

My boyfriend's cat is 17...almost 18 years old and if you walk in and say hi to her she'll look at you and meow...

She's seen a lot in her years...seems to me she's pretty smart :)

my other cat is an idiot, and by that i mean, unusually stupid for a cat. she was a stray when we found her, so she's a bit of a bad ass when hunting and fighting. she's very loving, but mentally/socially handicapped i think. the cats i've had since they were kittens always ended up very human in their behaviors. impressively so. they understand me when i talk to them, i swear.

I hate that master crap. Animals are our family. If you want to be somethings master than go outside and boss a leaf. Now, back to the real point of this thing. You really couldn't as for a better friend in nature than a dog.

    Why not cats?

Because i've never known a cat to save someone from a burning building, or a freezing river, or to guard my home as i sleep, or to bring supplies during a natural disaster....

    What do cats do?
They scratch furniture, get stuck in or on top off shit, and sleep on babies faces.

    Fuck cats.

That's why dog is man's best friend, he's there when we need him, not just at his own convenience....

cats kill rodents, mine have been incredibly handy. killing rodents and the occiasional snake. but i've known a helluva lotta useless dogs, too. barking, yowling, peeing on the couch, chewing up the furniture, attacking the kids. it's all in the training.

my friend has this super weird devon rex cat, it looks like a monkey and climbs everywhere.

It got out for the first time and was gone for 3 days. All these people had seem him in the neighborhood because he's so weird looking.

Finally came back 3 days later.

Cats seem pretty smart to me, and able to live on their own

animals of all species have been known to do all sorts of things, generaly for reasons of their own. the dog is a domesticated wolf. physiologicly it is a lobotomized wolf. as all physiologicly domesticated animals are essentialy lobotomized. cats are not physiologicly domesticated at all, just small enough not to pose an extreme mortal danger.

by why only cats or dogs? that's something that has always bothered me. and why for that matter, want creatures of any species to act as if they thought they owed you anything?

sharing your food and shelter with other creatures that won't tear it or you up is always cool, and i love the idea of it and have always wished i could live where i could and pretty much since leaving my parents houshold, low these many decades ago, have nearly never lived where i could.

i can understand protecting indangered species, i'm in favor of that too, and indeed one of the many problems of our encroachment endangering them is along with our own, the overpopulation of dogs and cats.

the excuse of course is to protect endangered species from being harvested for pets or otherwise for profit from their natural habitats, habitats our own population and practices such as road building and clearcutting are diminishing.

and while i certainly understand the need for creature keeping to be responsive to the needs of the creatures kept, and cats and dogs are the most familiar and well known, still i would prefer to see not an encouragement of irresponsibility, but an easing of obsticals to shairing one's shelter and sustinance with a greater diversity of small, relatively harmless creatures. ferrets for example. though other more exotic examples, requiring a certain amount of education to look after properly, come to mind as well.

i don't see how or why the law should have difficulty distinguishing between pet keeping and fur farming either.

i don't know why anyone would hate cats. i don't know why anyone would hate dogs. i don't get it. i think the happiest houses have a good mix of both. cats are so entertaining and low maintenance, which is really good when you have to move a lot. we're looking forward to finding a good dog to add to our family.

as for cats, they can be SO ENTERTAINING!
