i always hear about the two sides and people arguing about which is true and that they're both complete opposite and i don't understand why people can't see that these two probably go hand in hand. when we were created by god, it was a slow process that came about through evolution just the same way the universe was created by god which was also a slow process. we didn't just appear out of nowhere as pure humans by god. i don't see why people can't see that both apply. that's what i think anyway comments?
I agree with you totally. I think the conflict is a false one. I suspect that the conflict was created by church leaders in order to keep their flocks huddled closely around them. I'm not a Christian, but I really think that the seven-day creation is a pretty accurate telling of what we understand scientifically from the big-bang through the order of evolution. It works well so long as you take into consideration that the Almighty is not constrained by the human concept of how long a day is.
I can't see any logical reason why the two shouldn't be compatible. However, I think with some hardcore Christians (ie ones that believe the bible word-for-word), evolution is barking up the wrong tree. Personally I believe that both beliefs are somewhat flawed... and somewhat true. This is quite an interesting read on the subject.
Research philosophical materialism, dialectical materialism, and philosophical idealism. You'll understand why they can't go hand in hand. We can get along if people take an agnostic stance or the Satanic definition of religion.
Well I'm personally an atheist, but I don't see why the two couldn't coincide if you were a person who happend to believe in god. They only people who you will here demanding that creation be taught as an alternative to evolution are those who's interpretation of the bible conflicts with our present understanding of the world.
you are correct. the two theories are not mutually exclusive. It is totally possible for both "sides" to be right... just as it is also possible both sides are wrong. it's not something we will ever know in this lifetime.
yeah i just felt like bringing this topic up because i watched something on the Scopes trial on history channel last night
This topic came up in a different part of the forum with a far different reaction. My thought is this...that was then (creation or big bang...whatever) this is now. Does it really matter that I embrace a "belief" in either proposition or anyone of the other views in the world about an event that I can neither prove or verify due to my seperation in space and time from it. Simply...does it matter if there is no way i can ever verify either outcome? I have too many other important things to worry about.
