I don't know if he should be our supreme leader...i don't kow if i want a supreme leader...but he was and probably still is a very influintial guy and he has to be given a hugh amount of credit for everything he's done
True!.Do we need a Leader at all?.Good point. But if anyone could be crowned:King of the Hippie Movement ;I believe that Allen Ginsberg is more than suited for this high office!.He was at the 'Human Be-In' at Golden Gate Park ,San Francisco in January 1967,along with Timothy Leary. This was a seminal moment for the 'gathering of the tribes!'.
lAst time I heard Allen read (92) he launched with an anit-smoking rant. open minded and free? or tobacco control freak?
I'm impressed that you went to an Allen Ginsberg meeting in 1992.No one can do that now because he's gone to the big gathering in the sky!. Ha,ha,it's funny that A-G should rally up against smoking.I don't know whether he was a smoker or not but I always imagine him puffing on ol' hookum peace pipe!. Could he be crowned 'King' of the hippie movement on here?.
Ok, let's take it from the beggining? Hippie? Who is a hippie? I don't see any reason why someone should or shouldn't be a "hippie"..... What are those "hippies", some kind of informal organisation? Don't make me laugh, please. Beacuse... If i understand it correctly, it's all about individuallity, not belonging to some kind of group with i really don't know what kind of rules that allow you to be or not to be a "hippie". Rediculous.
^ That's so true. Real hippies wouldn't care so much about fitting in with the other hippies because it's all about freedom and individuality. Yeah, I wear the same tye-dye clothes and hemp necklaces as everyone else does, but that's just because I love how it looks, not what group it puts me in. Ginsberg rules.
Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in. Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in. He'll fly his astral plane, Takes you trips around the bay, Brings you back the same day, Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. Along the coast you'll hear them boast About a light they say that shines so clear. So raise your glass, we'll drink a toast To the little man who sells you thrills along the pier. He'll take you up, he'll bring you down, He'll plant your feet back firmly on the ground. He flies so high, he swoops so low, He knows exactly which way he's gonna go. Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. No he is definitely NOT. He participate too much in left-wing politics, kinda a political hippie, yet if some cultural icon is sticked in politics then it would diminish right away. No politics in hippies! Timothy Leary for the king maybe?
I don't believe the hippie movement should ever have a king, or any sort of leader. A spokesperson perhaps, but nothing more than that.
:& I underestimated the support on this thread for:Dr.Timothy Leary.Clearly another contender for: 'King' of the Hippie Movement. I accept that Hippies don't need a King or Queen but a Court Jester.......quite possibly!!!. Hippie King?..or...... ....Hippie King???.
The Eternal Questioner If time could stand still How long life should seem For life is but an illusion A state of concious dream And when life is all but over Time will wait no more Life but just the question Did you see the things you saw And when questions can't be answered Answer is not to gain Was my concious worth the effort And time but stopped in vain. Aleister Crowley
No politics in hippies? That's an oxymoron in and of itself. Allen Ginsburg was just a small spice in a big stew.........and he is most definitely not the "king" of the movement........many came before him, before he was born even. -Timothy Leary was a massive tool and a CIA asset.
hmm.. no, why Ginsberg? there were other beatnics, what about Ferlinghetti, was he a worse poet? or Cassady, Kerouac, or even Burroughs? on what ground should he be crowned king? If for what he was known best (to everyone), I already made my point.
