Hi Friends, I got placed in an international firm in Amsterdam and I got the offer around 2.5k Euros per month, is it sufficient enough to stay in amsterdam. How much it may cost for a single fully furnished room per month. And how abt food. Is it costly or.....hope u understood . Please help me out...Thanks in advance.
Thanks Koopa So in ur opinion 2500 Euros per month is fine..or its less according to Netherlands standards.
in my opinion it is fine, i am not a dutch citizen though. you may want to also post this message on the "dutch" board, as many more locals frequent that board on hipforums! good luck! koopa
I would say it's not enough if you want to live in a decent part of Amsterdam. Unless the company is prepared to pay for expenses associated with setting up a new life. As an expat you will find that things are more expensive than they are for locals (at least for the first few years until you learn how to navigate the system).
You can survive on that. But if you want to live in a decent place you might need to share an apartment. 2500 euros is a fair amt. of money, but living alone is more expensive. Some food items are expensive, others aren't. Eating out is very expensive, so avoid that. Have fun living in Amsterdam!
Thanks folks.. as per my knowledge my company is going to provide me the fully furnished stay and food..so I am going to have full amount only for expenses other than stay and food...well can any one help me out with the price of edibles like coke..etc..and whats the stable food in Amsterdam..
Tell us more about your film. Where are you from. Sounds like you got a great gig. I could stay in Adam and live well for much less, but it is all about knowing the right people. How long will you be there. Indies finish pretty quickly don't they? Food, Stampot is my favorite local food. eel, herring, pancakes, are local food. But you can get anything in Adam. The rolled turkish pizza's are good.

and could you please tell that how much it will cost for me to buy a bicycle...is it better to bring a bicycle from country..in my country it will at cost 100 Euros at the max for high end model..suggestion please..
NOOO! Don't bring a fancy bicycle to Amsterdam. It will disappear your first day! You can pickup a used black Oma (grandma) bicycle for 25 euros from a junkie, but that supports their habit. To actually buy a used one will cost you 100 euros or more, but it's much sturdier and won't get stolen as easy. You'll also need to invest in at least 2 locks for it, figure 30-50 euros for that and carry bags for the back. I had 3 locks on mine and it never got stolen in 4 yrs. If you can buy a black, heavy duty bicycle in India, then get it (make sure it has fenders for the rain and a heavy duty rack in back for panniers). But if it's any other color and fancy it will standout like a float during gay pride day. You can get a wide range of international food in the supermarkets and restaurants. Indian food is widely available in Amsterdam (I love pataks!) If you like falafel you can eat cheap. Best place to shop is Voormar and of course Albert Hein. If you're near the Albert Cuypmarkt you can get fresh produce. Cheap eats are breads, cheeses (Indians don't usually eat much of that, but it's great in Holland), all dairy products, chocolate, and Dutch produce in season can't be beat. The hothouse produce might seem expensive, but here in the USA we import that stuff and it costs 3-4 times as much! It's excellent quality and worth the money. Dutch tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes are the best! Dutch coffee is also cheap (2.5 Euro-500 grams), compared to elsewhere. Douwe Egberts is very good and fresh in Holland. I've bought it in other countries, but it's always too old and lost its flavor. BTW, 2500 Euros after rent is a LOT of money to have to play in Amsterdam! I'd give you more prices but I haven't been there in 2 yrs now, and prices were rising very fast when I left. Have fun!
