i know what you mean. it just seems like some people try to not make it diverse so they get labeled "punk" like i know alot of local bands who try to just be "punk" sounding (it seems) and care more about that than making different music or trying different things. somtimes it gets repetitive, as in all kind of different music.
do they even play flogging molly, the casualties, dropkick, or the ramones on mtv? i dont watch mtv music videos, just their horrible reality shows like next and pimp my ride. dont they just play rap on mtv? i really dont know.
i find that even in "punk" bands like the ramones and sex pistols they still have a very commercial aspect to them. let's not forget that it was from these bands that the whole spiked hair and spiked leather jackets originated from. the only punk recent punk bands that i think deserve any credibility are the ones who admit to punk's fallout and who the real pioneers were ie. the velvet underground, iggy and the stooges etc. people tend not to delve too deeply into where punk came from because the only punk that most people know is the punk that became mainstream with bands like the sex pistols, the ramones and the clash.
um. dont know how to make a quote box thing. but pretty much everyone has heard of the sex pistols, the ramones and the clash, i agree. and pretty much everyone claims to like them. i mean, they are good and i like them too, but if those are the only bands you can name that are supposedly punk, then you obviously are not too into the punk scene. punk today it seems is wearing a leather jacket and smoking a cigarette during lunch. oi.
i totally agree. i have thought about this alot. i try to find bands that are not so mainstream, but ifi like the music i listen to it. the ramones are fuckin huge, nad the ramones, sex pistols, and the clash are just like commercialism and products now. its strange, but nothing is what is seems and things always change. heh
Stupid, very stupid statement. Most bands make videos and MTV finds out that people like them and put them on for the basis of ratings. It's usually not the true punk bands that give up their videos and appear on MoreTelevisionthanVideos(MTV)
