I just think people are blown away by the way Iraq looks now, and just to the east is Iran, all westernized and commerical and whatnot. Not to say Iraq is a dump. I've never seen any really western looking areas Not to say western society is all that great, either.
Iran is a very beautiful country it will look much better when the present islamic theocracy is gone, and people can vote for people who are not chosen by clerics. fancy buildings are not that important to the freedom of the people who lived in them. For Jonny: The Nazis actually came to power during one of the worst economic depressions ever experienced. People bought into their heretical crap, because it promised something better for them and their children. By painting certain racial or cultural groups as villians the poor bought into the lies that by eliminating them, their own lives would be better. Iran is currently a prosperous country and if their populus choose to vote according to certain religious lines, who are we to say they made the wrong choice? And don't try and use the women's rights issue to make your point. We haven't improved the lives of women in either Afganastan or Iraq to this point in our occupation. The US still uses Electrocution, Gas Chambers and Lethal Injection to inforce their law, are our methods anymore civilized than their's. All result in the same end to the victim. As for protest, how about the immigration protests going on right now, we have protests here as well, including many large anti-war protests. How is the US portrait any bleaker than the one you are trying to paint of Iran. And if GW had his way we would have prayer in our schools, the bible in our courts, and baptist hymns sung at baseball games.
