Ok, I wasn't sure where to post this thread, so here looks ok? My hair is getting kind of long, about shoulder length. My question is: is there any good way to keep tangles out? Because after i shower and comb out my hair, i always end up yanking hair out and its starting to hurt. Is there any shampoo that works well or anything, or should i just slice it all off?
yep... best if it's seperate from the shampoo, I find. I like to leave the conditioner in for a little while if I can.. I'll shampoo, rinse, condition then shave my legs and pits, then rinse out the conditioner. Letting it rest helps You can also get one of those little spritz bottles, mix a little bit of conditioner in with a bunch of water (make it quite dilute) and spray a little into your hair after a shower or before combing it, my cousin does that regularly. Or buy a leave-in conditioner and use it the same way
I've got the same problem, and my hair complicates it by being curly. I hate it. Anyway, I've found that the leave in conditioners work pretty well.
I stay away from drugstore shampoos and conditioners and trust me, I wasn't always a hairproduct-snob. However I noticed a LOT of shedding that just couldn't be normal. I've started one of the lines from a beauty care/salon college and my hair hasn't been healthier. The problem with drugstore brands supposedly are the amount of wax they have in the mixtures, especially the conditioners. If you're really concerned, spend a little more and invest. If you want a quick fix (that I thought would work back in the day), then pick up a conditioner at any store. I also noticed that my hair tangles far worse when I'm traveling or in places where their water is crazily 'hard'.
oh yeah, don't muck with that pantene prov crap, it leaves a layer of wax on your hair that you can pull off with a fingernail after only a couple washes (friend used it, not me, thankfully) I like Back to Basics brand crap, infusium 23 has a good leavin, and my mom is fond of tresemme (even though it has a strong perfumy odour, might be too girly smelling)
You might try using a blowdryer after you wash your hair, and then brush it out well (use a good brush, not a comb). That really helps me to keep the tangles out.
Weird. I don't use shampoo or conditioner, my hair is long and wavy/curly, but never tangles. I don't even use a comb ever, just my fingers.
comb conditionar through your hair while your in the shower - wash out as normal, brush your hair when its wet
if its really bad, and tangels most at the ends you may just have alot of split or dead ends, a quick trim will fix that up
Maybe.. but I wouldn't recommend this as the hair shaft is at its most vulnerable and weakest when it is wet. A lot of breakage. You can finger comb with the conditioner in your hair (gently) while in the shower though. Use a good conditioner, never deep-condition roots (you may want to just rub a little superficially over the top layer for less frazzle on scalp) as most are way too harsh and will cause hair fall-out. I don't even condition my scalp with the conditioner I'm using. If you have dry scalp and dandruff, that's another story and should go through its own treatment. Condition each time you wash and you shouldn't be washing everyday. If you have oily hair, check out some (good) products catered to your type of hair. Trim as Jay mentioned may help too. Most of all, be gentle!
try combing some aloe juice through it. There's all kinds of crap in most conditioners (animal fat, unpronounceable chemicals, etc) that can leave a filmy layer on your hair. Aloe is a natural and cheap moisturizer. You can break off an aloe leaf or use store-bough aloe juice (at a health food store, get the cheapest kind. It is usually in a bottle that you have to refrigerate after, as it is often used as an edible natural therapy thing). I have some (I have dreadlocks so I do not use conditioner, and I only use a tiny amount of aloe or it will get my hair too soft) and it cost me about $5. You can even dilute it with water to stretch its use. Hope that helps. then again if you'd like a new look, cut it. Do what you want
Do you leave it in or rinse it out? My husband has shoulder-length hair too, and I can't get him to use anything but shampoo even though he complains about tangles and dryness of his hair. I usually buy whatever hair product is on sale, I don't care for any particular brand, although I used Dove recently and it seemed to work nice on my blond, flat, limp hair.
