wow....I put some thought into my lengthy replies, the mindless babble subsides for 2 days, then returns like nothing ever happened
Maybe because this thread was never really meant to be taken seriously. Bird_migration (the op) likes to wind people up, it amuses him. All the other Europeans getting angry over this should stop taking offense, he doesn't really mean it. It's just his warped sense of humour.
Since I'm German and, therefore, living in Europe, I do know what Europeans think of Americans. They are said to be pretty stupid, which I myself am able to speak for too. I've been living in California for one year (as an exchange student) and it was pretty shocking for me to hear American people say that Europe was a city in Paris *banging head against the wall* ... and then you are honestly trying to tell me that American people are smarter than Europeans are? You must have been kidding, dude.
Hi I come from red state America and am literally sickened by all the "God Bless America" bumper stickers and "we're number one" cretin attitudes with which I am surrounded. Unfortunately some people are born with half a brain, but I am pretty sure that this characteristic doesn't stick within political boundaries. Seeing that politicians and wars drew these lines in the first place I wonder if anyone else sees the irony. The west coast has way more intelligent people (more people in general). I've long said that western USA should succeed from the eastern US, and the south is a shithole of racism and militaristic b.s. George W. Bush can reap what he sows, and I didn't vote for Kerry, either. Democrats voted for the Iraq invasion also. Don't get me wrong, I am one hundred percent in favor of war. I think all the soldiers should go out in the desert and kill each other so the rest of us decent human beings can live in peace. Europe has had more blood spilled on its soil that I care to imagine. That is probably why the place is evolving into a better utopia. I haven't been there yet, but off the top of my head I can think of one thing better than America. Why we don't have a bullet train is beyond my comprehension! Well, I know why; because GW, Dick Cheney and all their rat race friends own the oil economy. The EU is definitely ahead in these kinds of catergories. As to everything else, I've yet to see, I'm flying across the water on Easter. p.s. If any European girl wants to marry me, I would die a happy man!
1. I live in the North East, have been to the south, and would firmly say that people here are not only more rascist in how rascist they are, but also in terms of the fact they don't realise it. And I wouldn't say any part of the country is smarter then the other, I've met some really smart and really dumb people from all parts. But if we're going to make generalizations, I'm going to say the north east is the most intelligent, I mean we're the richest and we have all the Ivy League schools, so it obviously must be us.(sarcasm) 2. For not realizing your own hatred for people(in this case the south and apparently soldiers) you're an asshole. 3. What's wrong with having pride in your country? Or if you believe in god having a "God Bless America" bumper sticker, I've seen other sticks that have had God Bless numerous things, and they're no where near as stupid as the "My Child is an honor student at....." bumper stickets 4. Europe, Utopia, ok, break up of Yugoslovia, that was really Utopian, race riots in France, more restrictive immigration then the US has, same oil economy. At least when we protest laws here we don't start riots and destroy people's properties(as often anyways). Europe's economic future is much bleaker(at least in the west) then that of the US too, lower growth rates and a baby population bust that will be much more damaging then that of America. And the bullet train isn't Europe, it's Japan. And we do have some high speed rail, the Acela trains between DC and Boston reach 150mph. And on to why we don't, same problem many companies in Europe find, old tracks that were built for steam/disel trains can't handle trains at very high speeds, and the fact converting the tracks and all other infrastructure would be expensive.
1.The fact that the east coast has more money is exactly why I think the west should succeed. Money is an arbitrary thing, you have to think of it in a supply/demand kind of way. East coasters with their inflated salaries come out west and drive up real estate prices and property taxes. They don't work harder, they just make more money. That's the way the economy works. I said that half a brain characteristics don't stick to political boundaries, so I don't see why you think I'm making broad generalizations. People who think alike do tend to congregate in the same places. This does not apply to their children, who have minds of their own. 2. I do realize my hatred for those who believe in violence and segregation, and I know there are beautiful people everywhere. Fact: It was the southern states and Bible reading morons who got GW reelected, and they makeup the majority of the armed forces. Live by the sword, die by the sword! {eat your words while you're at it} I'm sorry you took my south/shithole comment as a blanket statement, I should have been more specific. 3. I do believe in defending my country. Since when does flying across the ocean and dropping bombs on people considered as defense? Reap what you sow! 4. I said 'better' utopia. Look at crime statistics. I can go a hundred twenty in my car! Some European trains go 320! Expensive? Well, we spend 2 billion a week promoting 'democracy' in Iraq. Congress recently signed a 120 billion dollar highway bill. I could go on, but you're apparently from the half brain group, so I'll quit wasting cyberspace. {I apologize for the insult, but you started the vulgarity} Peace train
trains? wtf?? the fastest train in the world goes 320 miles an hour. That is a test train. It is not what your standard high speed train goes. The standard high speed train goes 120 mph. The French are designing one that will go 220 mph comercially. But seriously. Who the fuck cares about trains?
I care about trains! I have friends all over the continent and I'd like to see them more often. According to the Eurail website they have a train that does 320. It's better than poisoning the air with carbon dioxide, Mister 'Sunshine state'. Clean energy is possible, if we fire our shit brain politicians. Peace
the eurail website says 300 KPH(187 mph). the Acela goes 150. Trains do not work in America. We'd have to turn America into one big train track for them to work...like germany.
Sorry I was thinking in miles. I don't see any problem running a rail between every major city. It would really help the economy.
The problem with America is that it consists of typical loud mouth types like the thread starter. I must congratulate him and all the other Yanks who have contributed to this thread and taken sides, consciously or latently. It just re-enforces for all us Europeans what you Americans are really like, all brainwashed from an early age at school. One thing I've noticed is that 99% of the Yanks that visit Europe, now speak in quieter and softer tones as they almost feel embarrassed or ashamed of their country and don't like to be sneered at. I find this hilarious when I see it. But there will always be the odd one who likes to speak and project their voice a few octaves louder than anyone else, much to the disdain to us Europeans. I see Yanks in Europe all the time and no joke they almost whisper now, but these are yanks here on business and educated, the type of person who has more intellect and sense to start threads like this or even contribute to threads like this. (tut-tut) The trouble with America, in my opinion, is that it has no soul or style. It's brash, loud and garish like it's people. Europe has history and oozes style in just about every subject. All the major art movements like expressionism, cubism, Gothic, etc, all originated in Europe, along with all the famous painters, authors and composers, need I list them all.? what has the USA contributed to the art world.? (stop me from laughing here, somebody).
Well, what we've given to the world of science should have most other countries in awe, but since you said art: Literature: Washington Irving Edgar Allen Poe Walt Whitman Mark Twain Ernest Hemingway Upton Sinclair John Steinbeck F. Scott Fitzgerald Tennessee Williams(playwrite actually) Allen Ginsberg Jack Kerouac Hunter S Thompson Ken Kesey Neal Cassady Isaac Asimov Arthur Miller Henry David Thoreau Nathaniel Hawthorne Dr. Seuss Anne Rice/Stephen King if you like more modern stuff Music: Bob Dylan Woody Guthrie Hank Williams Johnny Cash Blues/Jazz/R&B/Rock and Roll(almost all types)/country/Disco/Hip Hop as a whole Duke Ellington B.B. King Jimi Hendrix Stephen Foster Louis Armstrong Pete Seger Billy Joel Don Mclean Tom Waits Stephen Stills Brian Wilson Chuck Berry Elvis Buddy Holly The Eagles Paul Simon(Simon and Garfunkel) The Doors Robert Johnson Grateful Dead Lynyrd Skynyrd Alice Cooper Benny Goodman Glenn Miller Irving Berlin Queensryche(one of the few 'intelligent' meta bands) Tom Petty (face it, obviously there have been foregin bands especially from England that have changed music massivly, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young(going up to canada) but the fact is since the 1920's America has been the homeland for music around the world, even if what we're making and sending out to the world now isn't exactly our greatest) Art: Andy Warhol Norman Rockwell Frank Lloyd Wright(architect) Jasper Johns Georgia O’Keeffe Paul Jackson Pollock Cindy Sherman Kay Sage Tom Benton Mary Cassatt Andrew Wyeth Anyone want to contnue? See, the difference is, Europe's history of the different arts and science goes back over 3,000 years, America's unless you count that of native americans goes back about 300 years. And the US has given birth to many different movements throughout it's history, some started here and spread overseas, but most started here, stayed here and forever changed our country, the fact is America basically is what the almost whole of Europe is.
