I started on the nuvaring about 2 weeks ago, and I am having some pretty serious break through bleeding. It's a nasty brownish/maroonish colour. But my period had stopped, but then this 'other' bleeding started. I am not impressed. Will this stop? Plus sex is very painful and I cannot climax for the life of me. Which is frustrating for my boyfriend and me sometimes as well. I have issues remembering and being able to stomach the pill (i throw up fairly easily). And I can't trust it if I am always throwing up. Plus it made me feel just horrible! I refuse to go on depo, because of mood swings and weight gain issues. What else is there? Will these issues with nuva stop? Help! I am so frustrated.
I would like info on this also because I was interested in Nuvaring but not if it will cause all these problems. Regarding the pill- I take mine at night before I go to bed to avoid nausea.
probably not. all the women I know who had that sort of breakthrough bleeding from progestin had to stop taking the hormones (have the contraceptive device removed, quit taking the pills, wait for the shot to wear off) to make it stop. Just because you aren't taking it orally or injecting it into your body, it's still the same artificial hormones, with the same possible side effects. I'd suggest using condoms. The unlubricated, non-spermicidal ones are the only ones I could ever tolerate.
A friend of mine had a problem like yours with the ring. She started taking the depo shot....and she didn't gain any weight. Her hips just got a little wider.
I'd talk to the doctor who prescribed the ring. Sometimes ability to orgasm can be gotten back, with practice, and sometimes, a drug actually prevents you from coming. I refuse to take drugs which do this to me. Some womyn bleed the first few months on the Minipill (which has the same hormone as the Ring) and it gets better after a few months, while others spot the entire time. If the sex problem continues, despite hard work on your part (you may need to help yourself along a few times) then I'd talk to the doc about a barrier method. Hormones aren't for everyone.
Depending on the person, a lot of them can. One person can take a drug and have problems with orgasm, an other person will take the same drug and have no problem, and an other person will be able to come, but it takes longer, or requires more intense or different stimulation. Everything from female hormones, to certain antidepressants to opiates, to tranquilizers to certain heart medications.
i hear you about the opiates. i take methadone on and off for chronic back pain and i can never get off.
