Yesterday I asked a group of my four and five year old students what they were scared of. Ghosts, the dark, snakes, spiders... But the most popular answers were vampires and dragons. I thought it was pretty fascinating because I'm not sure I even knew what a vampire was at that age! I, myself, was scared of the dark and of ghosts... I'm still scared of the dark! LOL
Nothing, truly.. maybe the police... not at that age. I was way too rational to have unjustified fears.
No, I was (and still can be) quite shallow in my younger years... that's why I lead the statement with "looking back..."
Spiders, still afraid of spiders, though not quite as much so. And I had this dream where an alligator with really big, wide eyes poked his head out from under my bed, grabbed me, and pulled me back under. Man, that freaked the shit out of me.
I would goto bed and have to have all my limbs just my face showing, had this strange fear that if my limbs were out of the blanket I would have somethig bad happen. This would only last a few minutes then would have to have my feet out because I hate blankets on my feet.
I was afraid of tornadoes and snakes mostly. And the garbage truck and airplanes. I remember I refused to go into my babysitter's backyard, because I was afraid the garbage truck would come. I'm not so sure what scared me so much about it...
Teenagers. I thought they were all out to get me. Now kids are just cocky bastards (well all the ones I know anyways) who'll yell at me and say really surprising things. Other than that I was a pretty fearless kid.
flushing the toilet during the middle of the night, when everyone was sleeping. i thought some toilet monster would come up once all the water was flushed. so everytime i went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, i'd flush and sprint back to my room upstairs.
i was afraid of someone coming into my house at night when i was sleeping to shoot or stab me .... or of a house fire at night and not waking up... also at one point i thought freddie crouger was under my bed and a witch in my closet.
when i was 5 i used to read all i could about spiders. i was fasinated. but they also scared the shit out of me.big ones still do. like the big wolf spiders and the brown recluses
ew one time at band camp... i mean in a cabin by the beach i was laying in bed reading.... dan was in the shower.... i was all relaxed and calm- i felt a small "tickle on my arm"- i thought it was really just an itch, ya know? but i looked down at my arm- duddde.... i have no idea what kinda spider it was! but... it was just as big and hairy as a tartantual only it wasnt on... *looked slightly different color, etc) wow... *breathes* i freaked out... couldnt ever find it then... i flung it off my arm, went to get hubby.. it was gone. i was afraid to fall asleep there again.
garden gnomes, that ivan ooze character from the Power Rangers movie, the Chuckie doll from the Child's Play movies, and spiders
I was scared of ghosts. I thought Abraham Lincoln and an evil gypsy haunted our toilet... Don't laugh at me! I'm not crazy I swear!
