Used to be into porn but to be honest I find it pretty boring now, and beyond watching the occasional porno with my misses I dont really bother with it anymore. Maybe Im just geting old.

 

i do cultural studies so this questions has come up in my mind several times when i watch porn or whatever. basically I used to think that porn was degrading to women and being the neo feminist that I am, obviouly deemed pornography to be, well, sick in that sense. But now i reckon is all about positioning. If i decide to watch it is for a reason, and same thing with the girls that take part. How likely is it to be forced to watch porn? i cant speak for the women who do porn, but it intrigues me, what motivates them to do porn in the first place? anyway ..

 

Prostitution is worse than porn. What's harmful about people watching sex through electronic mediums? what's harmful about porn stars in a safe and controlled environment?

 

I agree that porn can give a person unrealistic expectations. Anything you read/watch/listen to can do that however, but you can avoid that if you make sure to think critically about whatever you watch. I don't think theres anything at all wrong with porn, in general, but I think it doesn't do justice to the real depth and fullness of human sexuality. It's just about getting off, and sex can be so much more than that.

Porn can be exciting if I'm in the right mood, but I'm increasingly becoming turned off by porn stars and the kind of movies they act in. They've often had surgery, wear all kinds of make-up, and perform for the camera. There's a script and director, people are getting paid to act sexy, and you can tell that a lot of the screaming and moaning and what not is just for show. It's all just so FAKE. Ugh, it can be almost nauseating sometimes.

I just hate it when sex becomes a commercial product, for me sexuality is something intense, fundamental, personal, and beautiful. When you connect with yourself or another person sexually, its one of the most sublime (even transcendant) experiences you can have. You can't really connect sexually with someone who is acting, even if you're having a lot of fun.

What I do really like is amateur or homemade porn, especially voyeur-ish stuff- like where the couple isn't even paying attention to the camera, and its just people enjoying each other (or themselves) and expressing themselvs sexually. It's people being people, and its very real and honest. Watching a real couple or person do exhibition-type stuff for a camera is fun as well, 'cuz you know that they're getting off knowing that you're getting off watching them, so it's kinda like you're a participant.

So, if you like porn, more power to ya, but most of whats out there just doesn't do it for me. Anyone else feel the way I do?

I think porn is nothing but showing to others in a more eleaborated way the thing WE ALL DO at least at some point, the ones they don't do it are either dead, nuns or dumb as George Bush. Porn is nothing but sex ready to watch, most people need it to overcome the daily issues at work, home or school, porn must be a practice. Porn is not for narrow minded people.

How do you know that they are working in a safe and controlled environment? I am sure there are lots of situations in which it is not safe and some women in porn have been forced into it by their parents at an early age and now think they aren't good for anything else. So there is no way to say that the porn stars you are watching are working in a good environment.

I enjoy reading erotic fiction, but watching ugly people have fake sex just doesn't do it for me.

 

That's why you should know your production companies. Most of the larger well known companies do very well by their 'stars'. Avoid crapppy ' 4 hours of hard core ' and other lower end stuff. Just like everything else, you should practise informed consumerism.
