I don't want to get too Oliver Stoney on you guys and gals, but I think I figured out why Wal-Mart has been turning away us unshod folks lately.

Now, it's been my experience that many barefooters out there are also avid Jim Henson fans. And Wal-Mart knows that WE know that they're the only store out there who are exclusively selling the 'Fraggle Rock' DVDs.

So what I'm thinkin' is that Wal-mart sees this as an opportunity to clean up all them, "dirty hippies" out there by luring us into their palace of perfect purchasing prosperity.

"You want to see Doozers? Get a haircut, hippie!"

"Let's see some shoes on those Fraggle lovin' feet, damn commie bastard!"

How can we, as freedom loving citizens of Mother Earth, get our Fraggles without sacraficing our values and integrity?

Who can stand against the tyranny of housewares and crappy mens apparrel in our soleless sandaled solace?

Oh, who can STAND, uniting us as one Fraggle loving, shoe-abhoring family and let them know that...

    WE WILL NOT BE SHOD!!!

    *re-composes himself* Ahem...

    ...any thoughts?

I'm not too familiar with Fraggle Rock. But there used to be a kids show called Zoom on PBS. If you ever saw the old clips of Zoom from the 70's, you'll notice that all the kids went barefooted. I've seen the newer versions of Zoom on PBS and all the kids wear shoes.

Hmm. I'm not the only one who noticed how the barefoot thing on Zoom went out of style.

    http://www.jumptheshark.com/z/zoom.htm

    Some excerpts:

"The kids in the cast were made to wear shoes. The original casts went barefoot or sockfoot most of the time. Just seemed more comfortable and natural. I have yet to see a kid in real life who wears shoes all the time! Let your feet breathe for crying out loud!!

"The original ZOOM let the kids wander around in their bare feet because of the freedom that it represented. This new show has none of the carefree barefoot abandon that the original show had, and I'm pissed! Kids should learn the pleasure of wandering around barefoot, and this new show has stopped this all because of the right-wing appointees that run PBS now. Shame."

"I loved the original ZOOM. I thought it was cool how they would walk around barefoot and wear striped shirts and snap their fingers and say "As a matter of fact..." (snap snap!) I loved the leather bracelets and roll out the barrel and Joy to the World and I had a crush on Danny and I wanted to be Edith. I loved the paper towel food coloring and SASE's and the laid back feel ZOOM had. It was the last hippie gasp. The original ZOOM never jumped the shark."

Wtf, walmart is selling fraggle rock on DVD? Fuckin a man, I did'nt even know about that. I never liked zoom, not the new zoom. I've only seen the new zoom, and I hated that shit. Anyways, striped shirts kick ass.

what about the new edition of the dark crystal? does wal-mart carry that? note: jen wears boots for most of the film, but kira is always barefoot! i haven't been in a walmart for years. they give me panic attacks, aside from the whole shoe thing.

Now I know you're not trying to advertise for walmart here, and that you are in fact doing the opposite, but I have to say "Damn! Fraggle Rock on DVD!?!!??!!" Wow!

They truely have trapped us here. I hate walmart with the burning fires of a thousand suns, but I would consider buying this from them. Now how to get my barefeet into that god forsaken store!? Can I do this and keep my self respect?

    Peace, hippies! -Ana

All right, everybody. This just might make my revolution from earlier today defunct, and I hope I'm not getting in trouble for this, since someone mentioned no advertising of stores here, but I found the path around the walmart problem. Fraggle Rock lives here!! --> www.hitstoreusa.com

    Huzzah!

    That's all I can say.

Hope I'm not breakin' any rules here.

NOTE: If this helps, I have 3 jobs. None of which are for HIT OR the Jim Henson Company (and certainly not for Walmart...bah!!).

Oh, and you can find the special edition of the dark crystal in lots of places. That'll be a panic attack free venture, Kitty.

And the first 'Zoom' was kinda neat. Accept I remember it being just a bunch of kids running around on giant letters and blocks and things. Nice that they let them go barefoot, though. Kids gotta be freeeeeeeee!!! [IMG]

Well, I don't want to support walmart at all. It's not that they won't let me in barefoot, but that they discriminate against barefooted people, among many, MANY other problems (of which this is my least concern.) Otherwise buying online would work out great!

    Thanks for that link, BFG_Rob!

I have seen some shirtless people and barefoot people in wal mart but nobody has ever said anything to them and theres no sign up but im still kinda afraid to go in there cuz those people at the front door freak me out every time. Id rather go to Target, they dont give a crap and its cheaper too.
