mexico/guatemalan style

hello!for part of my textiles exam i have to make a top based on southern america(ish) and i have to embroider quite a lot of it and i was wondering what kind of stitches would be appropriate? i have no clue

 

? .... may have better luck with an actual pattern infront of you...
