These days, people don't care that much. They have their opium of the masses, the TV.

    Peace and love

Well, at least you can't accuse them of being apathetic. I'd rather see people get worked up about something, even if they're not always doing it the right way, than to not give a damn about anything.

The sad thing is the American attitude, of "I don't care," "screw everyone else," and "I, I, I" is spreading everywhere.

    The French are still immuned..

There is no healthy "i" without a healthy "we."

The French lined the Champs d'Elysee with elm trees to provide nice shade for the Germans each time they invade.[IMG]

    Actually its really not.

The French are mad because it would mean that they could get fired if they don't work up to the standard that they are supposed to. And that they could be asked to work more hours if needed.
If they don't change something over there, the French economy could really end up in deep shit.

But I still have respect that some people are heading to the streets to voice there opinion, even if i dont exactly agree with it.

    Peace

Work isn't what life is all about.

Technology is getting better and advanced, people should be working less not more.

If people could reduce their work hours and increase thier leisure time then good for them unlike American workers who sit and complain about horrible working condtions and low wages, but do not do anything about it.

If people could increase thier wages then good for them.

Actually they are demonstrating because the new laws would put younger people under 26 more at risk of being used and thrown away without a reason, why so corporations can hire and fire and keep their bottom line down, not because the employees are at fault the Corporations want a no fault clause so they can use and discard employees. That's where we are in the State's now, I applaud them for standing up and trying to make the world see the Corporate bottom line is not the most important thing in the world.

Getting back to the heading of this thread. I was eighteen in 1968. We weren't just dealing with dreams, we were dealing with a draft, where many died in a foreign country for what??? We were trying to change the thinking of a capitalistic society, that only valued the long followed precepts of a conservative life. But we ended up shaping womens rights, and racial integration and much more. What is your generation going to do? You couldn't vote or drink back then until you were 21 but you could be drafted and become cannon fodder. Now you can vote at eighteen, do you lunkheads?

i agree with some of what you have put here. Its so easy to get trapped into this ideology that if you work hard you earn more and get better things.

The whole concept of money was dreamed up so that Mr Farmer didn't have to give the builder half a dozen sheep in exchange for a wooden hut built by the builder.

Now there is more than enough food grown every year to feed the Western world 10 times over. So much that a lot of it gets built up in stock piles (and if you are Italy you sell the overstock to third world countries, cheeky).

There are houses everywhere when you think about it so do we really need so many builders.

With greater fishing boats we don't need so many fishermen.

There are all these made up jobs that don't really physically achieve anything such as bank manager, computer programmer etc. What physical element do I as a programmer bring to the world. Nothing really. I aid other non real jobs exist such as accountants. People paid to count money.

Imagine when it all started you had bob the builder and fred the farmer. Fred says to Bob, "You couldn't build me one of those huts could you" and Bob says "sure fred, get your wife to make me a sweater or two with the sheep wool and maybe a meal or two" and I'll do it.

Frank the Fisherman gets involved and so on.

Then this crazy character comes along and says instead of trading items lets make a currency. Say "3 sheep are worth a small hut" why not have these things called dollars where a sheep is worth "20 dollars" and a hut is worth "60 dollars"......

Now... here for the crazy bit. If you all give your dollars to me I'll sort out the payments and in return I'll take a cut of the dollars so I can maybe buy a sheep or two. What a conman.

How many ridiculous jobs can you count that really aren't that important.
