That sounds like your mostly talking about new york in the 1800s except for the falling skyscrapers. I mean i went to New York over the winter and it was really beautiful i iceskated with my Gf and there was snow around. Rockefeller center was also nice to watch people ice skate and drink hot chocolate. There are tons of great things to check out there during all seasons. Never once saw any of these 50 major gangs but i guess they could be around lurking in the sewers.. who know its still a great city.

haha.. he took down the post i guess

oh my, there is SOOO much to do in nyc! especially in the next month - lucky you!!! check out the green apple music festival (at www.greenapplemusicfestival.com) tons and TONS of bands playing next weekend. at any time, check out the websites (do a google search) for coda, the lions den, mexicali blues (just over the boarder in jersey), the knitting factory...geez - there are others, but i can't recall right now. check out smalls for great cheap jazz. check out the ny rainbow family for picnics and local gatherings... check out angelicas kitchen or kate's place for excellent vegan food (yum!) there is just so much counter-cultural goodness in this vast city! you can send me one of those message things if you'd like more info. but i tell you this- there are just tons and tons of things to do here! check out the entire east village. all the museums. even the west village.

Little Italy (Mulberry St. between Canal and Houston Streets, New York) salutes the patron saint of Naples with a celebratory Mass and a candlelit procession of the Statue of the Saint. 11 days to feast on food from the old country, watch the parades, enjoy the live music and compete for the title of cannoli-eating champion. Mid-September.
