from my experience, I've had to incorporate some quilting techniques into regular clothing patterns and do a whole trial-by-error thing...
Quilting techniques for clothing would be helful to me as well... I've been patching jeans over with odd bits of cloth for years, but they never last.
There is a gret book called "Patchwork Expressions". You can get it from: http://www.angelfire.com/biz6/earthexpressions/book.html It has lots of help and some patterns. If you can get a copy of "Threads for Heads" that is a great book also but it is no longer in print. The only way to get it now is to borrow from someone who has it or buy one of the illegal copies that are being sold on ebay for an outrageous price. Patchwork Expressions is still being sold legally by the author. Kathi
Part of the problem with patching rips in jeans and stuff like that is when you use new fabric on old clothes. The fabric shrinks and moves in different directions. When you have this happening the patch pulls away from the pants. If you prewash and dry on hot the patch, it may help it to last longer because it will wear the fabric a bit. Kathi
