So yeah, there are the obvious ones like Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa, but who else do you all reccomend if any one loves the grooves on the kit more than anything?
Art Blakey, Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Jack DeJohnette, Elvin Jones, Max Roach, Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta
everybody that i would have recommended has already been listed wait! i forgot antonio sanchez. he's the current drummer for the pat metheny group. he has some pretty good grooves
add to that list the often overlooked Billy Cobham Tony Allen too. These 2 along with Tony Williams, are fusions 3 best drummers.
Why have none of you philistines mentioned Philly? Joe, man, he swings the fuck out of the drums. Listen to him on Trane's "Blue Train", the playing is amazing all the way through... you could make a listenable album just from the drumming.
A lot of these drummers sound great. But I'm not too sure about this one... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDYSrpcYvP8 I wonder if Fash like jazz or anything. Even though he's not great on the drums, he's definitely got a female small audience. But if he listeneed to jazz drumming and got a jazz band, he'd have more girls screaming for him.
Roy Hanes, Joe Chambers, Pete La Roca, Art Blakey, Al Foster, Jack DeJohnette and Lenny White have been added to my list. And Gregory Hutchinson. I just heard him on Joe Henderson's album "Lush Life," and he's absolutely incredible. They do a version of Take the A Train with just Joe on sax and Hutchinson on drums, and it's one of my favorite songs period.
