Aww! That is officially the best-looking family i have ever seen! Soooo sweet!!! Good for the ambulance guy, i love what he said! Congrats grandma!
Thanks, y'all! I went to see him yesterday. This guy does not act like a newborn! His eyes are soooo wide open and he looks around like he's trying to get involved in the conversation. He's amazing! Michelle's milk is in! After a rough night in which she gave the baby a bottle of Enfamil (which he promptly threw up all over her, hehe! Good baby!) she is now nursing well. Damn the hospital nurseries and their free formula samples! I know Maggie can relate, but you know right before the milk comes in, and the baby just wants to nurse and nurse and nurse, and the hormones are jumping from pregnant to lactating? The weakest moment in a new breastfeeding mommy's life, and those fricking formula companies exploit it well. So, I spent a good hour explaining normal newborn feeding patterns (NONE!) and boosted up her confidence. Michelle, I said, I only want the best for this baby, and the best for this baby is YOU! Plus, her mama is very pro-breastfeeding, she nursed all her kids, so that helps! Anyway, everyone is happy and doing well!
Fantastic birth story, Brighid! I am SOOO glad you got involved so she didn't have to have a section. The HR went up as soon as you got into the ambulance. It's like a kid's 105 fever breaking on the way to the doctor's office. He's probably an old soul. Some babies are just born and look like they are saying, "Oh, yeah, this stuff again." Sage was like this. ") Good for you! I am so glad she listens to you. And that her mama is probreastfeeding, too. (Maggie pulls soap box from under the computer desk) The companies also time the "free samples" for growth spurt weeks, on purpose! There are studies that have proven that just having it in the house will decrease your success rate, just due to that middle of the third night, milk coming in, baby screaming, mom not sleeping, hot flashing, pereinium hurting, breasts bursting panic! I tell my clients to not bring the stuff home, and not have any in the house. I always hear "What if there is an emergency?" Guess what, Jewel AND Walgreens are open ALL night, IF there was a starving baby emergency,(and in really really rare cases there are) someone can go and get some formula then. (The baby can wait 10 minutes.) I've had mommy's grab me as I am leaving after a consultation and guiltily hand me their "hand out packs" to take out of their houses with me when I leave. I keep them for my High School classes for "Taste Testing." (Enfamil wins over Isomil. My dh once tasted Isomil and said "It tastes like Bong Water." Whereas, he says human milk tastes like "Really sweet Goat Milk with Cantaloupe in it." HUH?) Brighid, I am so glad this little grandbaby is in your life now. You need a big ray of sunshine right now. (((((((Gramma Brig))))))))))))))
