1.get poppy seeds (bagels, flower stores, dried seed pods) make sure its papaver somniferum
2.toss them in some soil and water
    3.wait a few months( keep watering, fertilizing,ect)
4.After they flower petals will fall off, watch until the seed pods are mature
5.using a razor or something make cuts in the skin (dont cut too deep) should look something like this

6.White goo comes out of the slices, let it drip for a few hours.
7.It oxidizes and turns brown, scrape off the black stuff and viola you have opium.

    ahh, lady O.

did an extraction last year, that would've yielded an off-white powder (of Morphine/Codeine HCl), if my friend's idiot friend didn't accidentally toss the suspension down the sink.

no sweat, though. I was pretty satisfied just knowing the procedure worked; it was from http://www.poppies.org

there's the site that'll pretty much tell you whatever you want to know

I havent tried it with bagel poppies yet, only a few seed pods I found in a flower store. Think the poppies from a bagel would actually grow?

does the plant have to be alive when you make the cuts

I would imagine. you can keep cutting the pod every few days until it stops producing opium

exactly; dried pods won't have any sap, obviously

tip: make the slits in the morning, and collect a couple hours later, by midday. alkaloid levels decline as day turns to night.
