Someone asked me to take pictures at a school sporting event. I'm an amateur photographer and have never worked for someone so I have no idea how to bill them.
Should I charge per hour ? per day??
It's digital so i won't have to use film.
Should I charge extra per print?
I'm trully lost, please, I need some advice.

Well, you need to figure out how much each print costs, then estimate how many shots you'll be taking. Then you need to figure out how much your time is worth (which is the hardest part). Maybe you could look into what the pro's charge, and then charge a bit less.

Basically, you have to cover your costs (prints, equipment, as well as your time).

Most people charge a flat rate for their time, say $150 or so, and then you charge for each print, or cd, they want. Whatever it costs you to have them printed, basically charge them double.

I think it's a good idea to charge for you time initially like somedude said. Then add cost per print.

yeah. flat rate is usually 100-150. then i charge 25 if i have to drive to the event. then usually double whatever everything else costs for you like somedude said. if you get a degree in it that rate gets higher. and it doesn't matter if you're using digital or 35 mil. or whatever. film only costs 5 dollars, and many times digital pictures come out better.
