"Tetas" is sort of Spanish slang for breasts. :)

BEAUTIFUL!!!! Both the baby and your daughter. Is Abuelita Gladys you, Brig? Or is that the other gramma?

Congrats on the new grandbaby. Just wonderful.

Sunshine and her boy are talking babies....she's too young :(....it's her life.....she really wants them. I spent all my college days dreaming of babies.

Oh. I bookmarked the album so I can see more of that beautiful sweet baby.

This is my son's baby! The handsome young man with the dreads is my son. Michelle is his girlfriend, and Gladys is her mother.
She did great! She transfered care to me a week before the baby was born (at 40 weeks pregnant!) because the CNM she was seeing told her her pelvis was too small and she could never birth vaginally. She wanted her to schedule a c-section. That freaked her out, so she decided to have a home birth. I checked her, and thought her pevis was plenty big enough, and told her so.
She went a week late, and Thursday evening, after I checked her and she was dilated to 3, I told her I planned to give her castor oil Friday morning.
    Well, Isaiah had different plans!
She called me at 5:30, with contractions every 6 minutes, so I told her to drink some strong chamomile tea and go back to bed. Her Mom called me at 7 saying the contractions were every 2 minutes and STRONG! I could hear her in the background crying, so I jumped up and ran over (she lives literally 5 minutes away).
When I got there she was pretty upset, so I calmed her down, and the contractions became more bearable at a good steady 4 minutes apart. When I checked her she was 5 cm and 80% effaced! I called Brandon (my son) and told him to come over, Michelle was ready.
Now that she felt more comfortable, Michelle was laughing and joking between contractions. She sat on the toilet while Brandon rubbed her back. She was handling them beautifully! By noon, she was 9, but the baby was still high. She went intot he tub for a while, to try to relax and bring the baby down, while Brandon poured water over her belly. By 2 pm, she was complete with a strong urge to push. After trying a few pushes, the baby's heart rate slowed. She squatted for a few contractions, and he wasn't happy with that. On her side, Baby still not happy, but we could just see his little head during a push. Tried the typical 'flat on her back with legs pulled up" McRoberts, and baby really didn't like that. Put her back on her side, and baby was a little happier, but taking a long time to recover. So we made the decision to transport to the hospital. Baby still felt like he had plenty of room to come down, so we thought he may have a really tight or short cord.
I put her in knee/chest, to take the pressure off the baby's head, and called fire rescue. They arrived just before 3.
As soon as she got in the ambulance, baby was happy as a clam, with good variable 130's. Senior fire rescue guy pulled out the OB pack and said to the driver, "Drive real slow! The midwife is here, maybe she can have the baby on the way and we'll just take her back home":)
We got to the hospital, baby still happy and steady, she got into her bed at 3:10, strong urge to push. The nurse says, "I have to tell you not to push until the doctor gets here, but if you really want to, go ahead and have your baby." 3:17, Isaiah was born!
The nurse said to her, "Now you know you can do it, next time you can just stay home." :)
the nurse also told her that if she had come in sooner, the doctor on call would have sectioned her automatically.
Anyhoo, baby is nursing like a champ, Mama is as pleased as punch with herself that she did it naturally with no pain meds and no c-section.
After the birth, she told me that when she was ready to push, she got so afraid because she kept thinking she was too small and the baby would get stuck. Once she got to the hospital, she relaxed and let go.
All around, a nice birth and one of the best hospital transports I have ever experienced!
