it's so retarded man. i don't classify people but other people do and they consider themselves 'emo' it's just retarded and the music they listen to is basically all the same and been played before by other bands.

i know what your saying, although i personally have a guilty pleasure of listening to emo music. im not so much into the black clothes and weird peircings and stick thin guys with eyeliner (although its cool if thats what your into), but for me, emo music is just pretty and haunting to listen to. i love putting it on when ive had a bad day or experience, or even just feel mellow, cause it totally feeds into those emotions. theres nothing wrong with a GOOD sad song.

No - well it's ok I suppose - just provides yet another contrast in this many coloured world to the glory of rock n roll - if all music was good then there'd be nothing to make one band any better than another.

what would be classified as emo? I can't really figure it out. is it like, avril lavine (sp?), teen angst pop but not upbeat?

no avril lavigne is 'punk'. (i hate these stupid labels but whatever)

emo stands for 'emotional', so if that helps you get a better understanding. emo music USUALLY (and again i hate to puts characteristics because i beleive music doesnt and shouldnt follow any 'criteria') consits of lyrics that can be happy OR sad, but usuaslly it depicts negative feelings the artist was feeling. i think there is a difference between emo/punk/ goth. goth is more 'screaming' (not trying to judge), punk is more yelling-ish stuff, and emo is more just kinda singing softly (sometimes.)

if you want to hear some emo, check out copeland, the fray, and i think even evanescence could classify as emo.

:p Ask Robert Plant... he might have found out by now!

Back on the topic, I like some emo music and have no problem with 'emos' themselves if that's who they want to be. Avril is not emo or punk... she is pop-punk really. As for emo, I would say Funeral For A Friend, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy etc. etc. are emo.

it's short for 'emotional hardcore' whatever that means...

i wouldn't mind so much if there wasn't a uniform that they all wore, not even slight varation. oh and the music is talentless pricks singing about how terrible it is to be the outcast at high school and how they hate their parents for giving them use of a credit card and such.

i like the music, although im not sure if the type i like crosses into indie and underground. but i definitly agree about the 'uniform' they seem to get into; whats with needing to wear tight girl pants and long black hair to make good music?

i bit contradicting to the freedom of music if you ask me.

    but emos alright.

Whoa, hold on there. Do any of you know what "emo" is? Because nowdays it doesn't take much to be put into that classification. There's such a thing as bad emo and "good emo." Yeah. there's the mainstream, MTV emo like My Chemical Romance, Hawthorn Heights, Dashboard Confession, Yellow Card, etc. But there's some incredible artists out there, such as Bright Eyes (Hailed as one of the decades best singer/song writers,) Murder By Death (What Yellow Card would sound like if they had any talent and a knack for being eccentric,) Xiu Xiu (Electronica/emo,) Sufjans Stevens (Seven Swans.)

Seriously people, don't automatically think emo is bad music, because it's not, just the kind being portrayed on the radio and MTV is. It's also such a broad term that almost anything can be labeled as such.

Besides, I'd be quicker to judge bands like Tool (Who I love) a hell of a lot more angsty than Yellow Card or My Chemical Romance.

Emo is the fucking most retarted thing. I'm sick of all these kids acting like they are sooo depressed. I'm 17 and in high school, and I'm in the very small percent of people at my school that don't dress or act emo. Thank God.

Music is music. I think that if you hate someone and that person listens to emo music, you immediatly hate emo for that because you hate that person.

i dont have any problem with emo music, different people like different things. what i do have a problem with is these little fags who like to run around in girls pants, its just not right. and i think people just do it to be cool which upsets me, dont try to act just be who you are!
