Today I came across a great album: Weather Report - Heavy Weather (1977). They are jazz rock fusion which was the new jazz style of the 70's.

Top band always with the nucleus of Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul.
    Always worth a listen

Yep, I'm playing a great arrangement of Elegant People in the London Jazz Collective at the moment.

I got to meet and hear Carl Anderson, who sang for them for a while. I always liked his stuff with them, as well as his other work.

    A fine choice

Jazz Rock Fusion is some cool stuff man. If you want to hear some jazz rock from Mars, possibly Pluto. You should check out "Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey" (hence the name lol). There really out there, but if you like music you should dig it. If you want some free shows of theirs to listen to just go to archive.org and do a search in the live music archive. You wont be dissapointed....Peace and HAPPY TRAILS

I find that in the 70's the Jazz was progressive, different from the Jazz today which that is not progressive but more Pop. Jazz Fusion is a progressive style of Jazz.

It's all progressive. If it weren't progressive it would be stagnant. What happened in the 70s was that so many people were desperate to find a new direction for jazz because the idea of competition for popular music bragging rights was new to them Rock had got going and suddenly jazz had a rival. These days Jazz is still around and is reassured that it will always have its place and is quite accustomed to competition so now you haven't got so many nutters doing crazy things out of sheer desperation. However you still have plenty of forward motion in jazz, lots of fusion and pluralism as well as extention of technique and virtuosity, not to mention that we can now play with so many new toys given to us by technology.

I do find it ironic that in their day, albums such as Bitches Brew, Headhunters, Mr Gone, etc were called commercial sellouts. Compared with the commercial rubbish all over the airways (a jazz example being the filth perpetuated by Smooth FM - which I see has now branded itself "The official Chelsea station" - I might have guessed), what was called a sellout back then would be too intellectual for most tabloid reading imbeciles to comprehend.
