I've been on ssri's and some other psych drugs since I was about 10. So far I've been on zoloft (250 mg/ day for 7 years).... effexor (briefly).. seroquel and trazadone(for 6 weeks while in hospital) ..... Lithium, Lexapro(for around 2 months).... Wellbutrin(also briefly).....Ativan(as needed)...and now Prozac(three months so far 40 mg/day).... my dosages are always really high and I worry about the long term effects. My mom has been on anti depressants for like 20 years and her memory is terrible.... do you think this is caused by the pills? Her dosage is way lower than mine, so I hate to think how I'll be when I'm her age. Any older people who have been on SSRI's long term? Do you think your memory has been damaged? Thx in advance -R
I cant answer your question, sorry, but I was on LExapro for 6 months and I had/am having quite afucked up time getting off it. I was on Seroquel for one day, I took i once and it just knocked me out.
My daughter used to be on these, and yeah she did have memory trouble. She had to make out lists of stuff she had to do, remember, ie homework, time of lectures, and she'd write them every night for the following day, and put them where she couldn't fail to see them. She always felt sorta zombie like, went cold turkey and got off them, it was tough.
you sound kind of like me. i've been on zoloft, lexapro, seroquel, wellbutrin, lamictal....as well as xanax for the anxiety and ambien & lunesta so i can sleep due to the side effects of some of the other drugs. point is-THIS IS TOO FUCKING MUCH medicine to be on. i know it works for a lot of people, but i think it's really kind of twisted that i've been on so much medication. and i definitely noticed problems with my memory. i always felt clouded and foggy, and someone would have to tell me something like 5 times for it to click. it would just go in one ear & out the other. i finally stopped taking everything cold turkey when i went to go pick up two new Rx's: when i got to the pharmacy, they informed me that one prescription cost $100, and the other $200. i have medical insurance-these prices are crazy. i'm a poor college student, there's no way i can afford $300 for one month of medication, and that didn't even include other prescriptions like birth control, anxiety medicine (which is one i wish i still had around), etc. and to be honest, i don't feel that much different having been off the meds for 2 months compared to when i actually took them. i think they're a crutch and they're comforting and they do work in the right dosage, but to be on like 6 medicines at once is just excessive. especially now looking back on it, and comparatively feeling the same. ok i don't know if this helped you in the least, but i read your post and just needed to share my 2 cents. good luck with your treatment and your memory concerns
I'm on the lowest dose of effexor for stress related stomach problems and love it and take xanax as needed until me semester's over. I have no memory loss. I really like the effexor. I was on lexapro and wellbutrin and just felt drugged up all the time getting off my drugs healped a lot!!!
some drugs will do that, some will make you lose about 15 iq points while you take them. But depression and anxiety cause memory loss too, so you kinda have to think about the trade off there.
