People need to vote...but only if you're informed. An ill-informed voter is worse than not voting.

(There are numerous web-sites and events going on all the time to inform you....all they need is for someone to go....)

The thing that gets me is that we are in a 2 party system. Everyone thinks "Oh, it'll just be the liberals or the conservatives" and they're right. But that needs to change.

Everyone should vote for the green party. Not because I necessarily think they would be the best governors (although the environment is the most important issue) but because every vote they get strengthens the party and makes them more of a contender. They are really raising alot of eyebrows lately, and it's time to see a more diverse opportunity, instead of "you want the puppet on the left, or the puppet on the right?"

NDP are excellent too, I voted for them in the last election, and the guy I voted for won in our district.

I'm no expert, but here's how I think it goes:

Conservatives: Benefit the rich, and the people who want to become yankees. These people don't consider the whole picture it seems to me, or they have their priorities mixed up. If you want to become the 51st state, and are well off without government intervention, and you enjoy destroying as much of the natural world as you can get away with, vote for them. They're good for homophobes too, cause apparently that's more important than anything else......idiots......

Liberals: Think the government should rule supreme...but they won't tell you that. They like money, but so does everyone else, so what can you do. They like to pretend that they are serving your interests (ie telling off Americans) but they like to lie (ie spporting Bush in everything he ever asks us to). Vote for them if you like pretty faces.

NDP: Are determined to make a difference, dammit! These happy little fellows are prone to making too much sense and scaring the norm. Lots of good theories that have never been in practice. The best contenders to break the 2-party tyranny for the benefit or collapse of all.

Bloc Quebecois: "Canada stinks! We want to murder all you anglophones and make the new nation of Quebec rule the world, cause nothing matters but us anyway." Watching the debates was funny with the little guy from the Bloc. He was so angry, but so little.....even Stephen Harper made sense next to him.

Green Party: These guys can't even be rightly called political, cause they just don't fit in. The respect the environment and ALL people at the same time...and yet, their policies on everything else...seem to...make.....some kind of....devinely.....simple.....sense. But common sense really has no place in politics, lets be real.......without hidden agendas, how do you expect to survive in this world. No we're not ready for that...but maybe some day.....

I sort of suspect that the Green Party does more harm to Canada then good by splitting the already thin left-wing vote.

And another little aside - NDP is guaranteed to be the least corrupt out of the major political parties, because they don't accept corporate donations, while the liberals and conservatives both do. No favours to business.

Like Jack Layton said he doesn't hate the liberal party it just needs a break, an overhaul and clean itself up. It seems like the party took his advice because many old senior members are leaving, retiring, and opening space for new blood.

NDP and liberal cooperation go back a long time.

The NDP manages to pass a lot of things when the liberals are in power because they share a lot of similarities. Canada's universal health care system was the result of the NDP.

If there was an election next week? Strategic voting. My first choice would be the NDP then the liberal party.

The conservatives are in power now and they will do everything to win the people over to win a majority next election then implement their wacky agenda.

Everything the green party stands for the NDP covers.

pffft. Canadian politics is so exciting - at least everyone doesn't clap and cheer whenever the PM makes a statement, like what happens whenver the President of the United States does. Politicians openly boo each other and call each other names all the time. It's hilarious to watch - and is beyond the kinds of discussions that go on within the Congressional House.

I have also met Jack Layton when he gave a speech at my University for opposing ballistic missile defense agreements with the US, and he's awesome. He's approachable and does everything he says.

I'll be 17 in under a week...so I'll be able to vote soon enough.

I'll most likely vote NDP, or Green Party. The Liberals screwed us over, and I'm a far leftist so I'm wholly against the Conservatives.

    My rant about Canadian politics.

Scandals aren't specific to one particular party.
Which seems to be something people just don't understand or remember.

People also need to break the habit of voting for a particular party because its a tradition... Like my Grandpa for instance, always voted Conservative/Alliance, despite the fact that he was pro-public healthcare, pro-public education, pro-abortion and anti-war. Chee, sounds really conservative, not.

And Canadian news coverage of elections are so biased. From watching coverage, you'd think Canada only has 4 parties. I'd like to know a little more about the little guys who are running...

I saw Rick Mercer in a car about a week after the Conservatives won the election, and I felt like slapping him in the face for being so right-wing biased, instead I've decided not to watch him on television (not that I really did much anyways).

Personally, I'd love to see the Bloc win federal. What would happen? They separate, or realize how much power they have and say "this is fucking cool" in French and go on a power trip. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I woudl vote Green Party unless it's a close race between Lib and Cons, then I would vote Lib. I can't believe all of the trash the Cons are doing right now.
