Hi all! I'm a musician. Been playing bass for about 12 years, drums for about half that long. I've messed around on guitar a bit with my band.. but never really took it too seriously. I got an acoustic a year or two ago but I haven't played it too much. I only really know the 'basics' for guitar.. your standard chords.. a few scales, an arpeggio or two.. and whatnot. Only thing I can really play on guitar well is heavy metal type stuff, and some finger picking classical that I learned from books. But when I'm doodling around on the guitar.. I find that I don't have much improv skill.. I guess I just don't have a very vast understanding of the fretboard. Which is weird because I'm pretty damn good at bass.. but guitar just puzzles me for some reasons. What I'm looking for is a site or somewhere where I can learn some 'jam band' type chord progressions and whatnot. Tablature please. I can read music, but I can't translate it to guitar (I learned to read music on saxaphone..) And songs that just name the chords like D#, C9, etc.. just puzzle me.. I don't want to sit there and figure out each chord seperately by looking it up. I'm more of a visual learner.. seeing the tabs layed out with a map of the fretboard helps me a lot. So I'm really just looking for anything that will help expand my knowledge of the fretboard and how I can transition to different chords easier and more intuitively.. I want to be able to just jam out at gatherings and whatnot like I can on bass and drums. Does anyone have a link to a site like this? Like the most common chords and scales used in this type of music. Thanks a lot !
