Hey I'm obsessed with parrots and I was wondering if any of you folks have them as pets.any stories or whatever are welcome too. If you're in ontario, where'd you get your parrots?

I don't have a bird, but my friend has a Macaw. We were watching Yellow Submarine once and it was that scene kind of in the beginning when everything is flashing and spinning really fast like japanese tv. Well, he bird just freaked out. She was all jumping around and dancing back and forth(the wobble birds do, if anyone knows it) and flapping her wings. She would'nt even take her eyes off the screen. Birds are really smart, they have the intellignece of a two year old child. So yeah...treat em' good, and watch trippy movies with the.

My grandmother is parrot crazy! Mostly macaws. One of them was particularly nasty and used to try to sneak up on us to bite us. (She rarely kept him in the cage) Imo, they are very observant creatures. This one would sit on my granfather's shoulder all day and watch every move that anyone made. He would just stare at you. Actually, with as many macaws as she had when we were kids, I dont remember any that were very friendly to anyone other than her and my grandfather. And she taught them to say the most horrible stuff too.....all day long you would hear "go to hell! go to hell!". Poor birds. ;)

    I don't know how I missed this thread :)

I have 7 parrots: 1 Timneh African Grey, 1 pied cockatiel, and 5 budgies.

As for living in Ontario, I can only say: "I wish". What kind of birds are you thinking of getting? I would always recommend that *anyone* planning on purchasing a cockatoo should read this site: http://www.mytoos.com/

That information applies to other species of parrots as well, but not as extreme. They're a lot of responsibility, but the rewards are well worth it.

If you have any bird questions, feel free to ask here or email :)

my mom has a budgie...he sits on her shoulder all the time when she's home. he's there when she reads, sits on the porch, gardens, has company, eats.

she loves that bird more then life itself.

hahha i've seen like all the parrots sites on the web already. lol.(ok i lied. but a lot anyways) and i've read every book at out library on them in the past year so I know quite a lot for a novice. I"m planning on getting either a Jenday or Bluecrown conure, or if I ever get the money, a Goffin's Cockatoo. I've visited a lot of breeders in my area, but I'm just waiting till I'm positive I can handle everything that they come with.

Conures are fun birds, and rather low-maintenance :) The Goffin's Cockatoo is a real sweety - I seriously considered getting one, but I realised that, since I have to work all day, and probably will for the rest of my life, it would just not be a good idea for the bird. Don't forget, many of the larger parrots can outlive humans...

yup i've heard of them living into their 70's! of couse, the average life span i found out for a large cockatoo is about 40-50, and smaller is about 30. conures can live to 35 max but usually into their mid twenties. they're very reasonably priced too for parrots. I've got all my stuff together for one, the cage and everything, so I'm just looking for the bird that is perfect for me. I'll be sure to let you know when it happens.
