Cuz San Francisco is almost magical....you can feel the energy rise when you stand on the peace sign at Hippie Hill during a drum circle, the energy of love is so thick there still you almost get transported back in time, if only for a brief second....

Dude, i found inner peace on Haight Street at 5am....If you have never been you have got to go...the entrance to Hippie Hill is Haight and Stanyan....

This gassy bull-wocky almost has me convinced that I didn't live in the Haight and witness shocking depravities. Excuse me!

The devil, Satan, the fallen one, had his head raised high and he clicked his heels very high and said,"GROOVY!" And, everything was just super cool.

I think SF fit more peoples style. LA and Hollywood was too bushwa.. I have never been to NYC but by the people I have known from there, it didn't suit everyone. SF was more of a laid back place, lots going on but at a slower pace. The weather stayed at the same temp most of the time and it rarely snowed.
Perhaps it was Golden Gate Park and the Panhandle that held the magic, bc that is where everyone gathered. The Park drew us. Haight Street was the Gateway to the Park. People lined the street moving along their way toward the Park with blankets and instruments and baskets of food.
By the time the fog lifted in the mornings people would fill the area on The Hill and spread their blankets down for the day. The music would begin and the dancing would commence. Everyone was joyous and in celebration of life. The LSD and Wine flowed freely and there was a feel of unity in the air. It was a time of love and peace amongst chaos.
Perhaps it was the LSD itself that opened up a new form of communication. Opening our minds to new possibilities of connection. We expanded our minds to the point of reaching the ALL and in the ALL we connected and gathered beconning our spirit bros and sis's to come and walk through the 'Looking Glass' to a new demension.

It would have work too, if not for the needle and what went in/with it. It enslaved minds and killed the body. It distroyed the Love and Unity, bc nobody wanted to share their 'Bump' they wanted it all. They became selfish and greedy. That's when the love went out and lust and greed took it's place.

Our 'Leaders' went past Zen and flew over to material gain and gave in to lust.. using all the young foolish girls/boys for their own pleasure, leaving behind a trail of broken dreams and false promises and holes in their arms. Our own 'Heros' turned to what they faught so hard against, Ego and death. It is Ego's job to kill the body.

A few of us got out alive, it's a miracal, but we did. With us we brought what we learned, a collection of truths so to speak. Some of us glorify it with bells and whistles, others know the sad truth and embrace the moment of enlightenment.

I don't think enlightenment can be judged or measured, it just is. Enlightened means to be aware, Our awareness comes from lessons learned, from what we experience and what effect it had on us and how we precive it.

I hope we are not doomed to repete ourselves.

If that market was way down at the foot of Haight, by the unfinished interstate highway, near Market St., right down over the hill from Octavia St.--that's where I lived--63 (I think) Octavia St., right on the corner of Haight.

We did illegal things in that second-story apartment. BTW--$65 a month-- 1967!

If I recall correctly, Shameless Heifer--then known as Mama Moo Kow-- led us into wickedness and tried to corrupt us ("us" being me and my friend Nat who had driven 3000 miles in a wreck 1950 Chevy across the coyote-haunted ghost roads of Neal and Jack until we ran out of highway and hit the foggy Pacific Ocean, yes!)

Yes, we were sinners in those turbulent times, but never again.

I have seen the light and heard the owl!

The concerts at the park where fun indeed.
Usually the weather in the bay area was/is pretty nice and stable, it stays 50 to 75 most of the year. In fact the GGP also supplied those who knew where to pick the potent Psilocybe Cyanescen mushrooms that grow there.

Height Ashbury is still a great place to shop and to find anything, if you know the right people other wise now a days you'll more then likely get riped off.

I can attest that the late 60's and 70's was a wonderful time to have experienced.

It was at Haight and Stanyon when I bought a newspaper On March 31, 1968, announcing that Johnson was not going to run for office again. Like the young fool I was, I thought that would be the end to the war. Right-o!

I forget most of the people I met, they just blend into a big smear, but I remember the lovely architecture, the cleanliness of the city, the fog and the fog horns, the brilliant weather, the parks. Believe it or not, the only time I saw the ocean was when I flew back from Spokane on an afternoon flight. (And, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge on the way up Route 1 to Spokane). That sight, of the ocean in whitecaps, the sails white against the emerald-blue sea, San Francisco spread beneath me, is a sight I want to see once more before I draw my last breath.

I could never figure that out. Let the Indians and the seals have it-- what fucking use is it? This is how the idiot "establishment" plays into the hands of the radicals. Face it-- the Indians didn't want it either-- it was just "street theatre". I would have said, "Fine! It's yours, and by the way, the taxes are so much a year." They would have vacated it pronto, Tonto!

As far as I know, it's still empty, just sitting there, maybe haunted by Al Capone.

Mostly a press thing. You couldn't even see them unless you were on a boat.i knew one guy(non indian) who was still collecting money off those little quarter placards for wounded knee,6 months after the fact.Alcatraz would make a good spot for a tourist hotel,at least until they realized they were stuck out in the middle of a very choppy bay.i'd still build my house there, wtf.
My boss sent me over to work at "Capones" once. The homeowner came out and introduced himself as Al.Now being a little slow or maybe a little stoned, probably both,it took me awhile to put it together.Turned out to be the nephew and godson of the original.Actually not much to this story, just a normal guy,had a small chain of hardware stores and collected cars.He did have a couple from Bill Harrahs collection which was cool.

First, I'll answer Sloth--Washington Square Park is closed after dark! Since when and why? Has the West Village changed that much? And, the East Village--Alphabet City-- I've heard is a yuppie hang-out. I'm old and times change and new and younger people tread my haunts, but it hurts, Sloth.

Now... the Gate-man! So, you worked for Al Capone's nephew. That's interesting, but I hope you didn't use his toilet:

"It ain't no good to stand on the seat,

The crabs in here jump seven feet!"

    (And, we carry syphillis!).

I think the Gater-ater knows more than he lets on!

    Just an Irish hunch.

Sloth-- dear, tell me, Please tell me, that Gem Spa is still across from Tompkins Square Park? 10th and 2nd Avenue? Or was that the Polish restuaranent? (Sp.?) I'm fucking drunk, sweets.

I lived 90 feet from CBGB's. 25 and 6 Bleeker (different years). It was the Palace Hotel, then-- a full-blown wino bar. I drank many a quart of Ballantine Ale there.

I was there getting ripped before the Sex Pistols blew into town.

Say hello to Hilly Kristel from Burl-- the bartender down the street towards Cooper Union, at The Blue Moon Cafe.

Hilly and I go back to the day.
