Well, I've made my decision. I don't like it. And i'm not getting anywhere.
And if you knew what i've been going through you'd understand my reasons. I've been bullied, and i feel so apart from the rest of the world. My college is too big, no one pays attention to me and i'm not going to get where i want. I think everyone relies too much on education to get them somewhere in this world, but life is much more than that. I love life, and i love my friends, and college is one big grey world of judgement, and fashions and lecturers who just dont understand. I've tried and tried again and this time, i think it's it.
From now, i may be working from home, on art and graphics and generally enjoying myself with what i can do until i can start again, somewhere much smaller, where people will pay attention to what i have to say, and no one will judge me by how i dress and what i do. Tommorow i'm having a meeting with my tutor. I really don't know what to do anymore, so there is no point in staying. No one will miss me.
Does anyone have any advice they can give me, for what to do for the rest of the year? I've been told by a lot of people that i have the talent to work from home a little, and i've already been asked by a few bands to do their cd artwork etc which will get me a little bit of experience (cd art is what i'm good at and what i want to do) but aside from more hours at work, what else will help?

People are always going to judge you.

Seriously, suck it up. You'll love the degree when you're done.

hmm maybe you could transfer to a smaller college with a lower student to faculty ratio. really though, college isnt for everyone. do what makes you happy

hmmm...what are you goin to school for? a degree helps with getting a job and there are things you need a degree and license for. i'm guessing your interested in graphic design or something like that. if you really hate school you probably shouldn't be there. i'd suggest tring a smaller campus. i went to a community college for 2 years and loved compared to the university i am at now. i still have good professors and small classes but i'm paying alot more. if your talented enough and ambitious enough you'll probably do pretty well working from home. you have to really promote yourself though. i hope you figure out what you wanna do. i think the most important thing is to do something you enjoy.

one thing to consider is the dreaded student loan, if you are on one. They royally sodomize you anyway they can the minute you are no longer a student. If you can afford payments thats great, but otherwise you might want to consider just transferring, or maybe joining a club or something to make you feel more welcome where you are.

I think kjhippielove88 makes a good point. You might be happier in a smaller college. The fact that one college isn't right for you doesn't mean that no college is right for you.

There are bullies everywhere. You're going to find them outside of college as well as inside. You may want to be more assertive (without necessarily being aggressive) in your dealings with people. You're going to be judged wherever you go. If you are in a field as subjective as art or graphics, it may even be especially true. Maybe a school that is more focused on art will have people who see things more the way you do.

I don't know if you have just started college or if you're only a few weeks away from a degree. If you're extremely close to graduation, it seems especially sad to quit. I agree with what solar eclipse says about joining clubs. If you're at a really large college, you would seem to have really good odds of finding people who understand you somewhere.

1 thing. I'm from england. You don't get degrees in college, it's just a little border between school and uni. I am going to start again next year with a new frame of mind and this year i shall be working on my portfolio, getting some more work and having some fun whilst i'm at it.
Also, my work is really poor at this college, there is no way i would have got a decent A Level with no motivation, no friends and no help.

I hate college...just like most other people. But I found something I was REALLY interested in (environmental studies) and sucked it up and continued to finish my degree. Even if you do "just want to create CD art", I have a feeling you'll still need a back-up plan, because I'm not so sure that's gonna make you enough money to survive in the real world.

Someone suggested graphic design and that's not a bad idea. You can make pretty good money and do what you REALLY want to do on the side.

    Just a suggestion.

Why do you think it ruins most (but not all) people?

I have no idea what I want to do in life. I am probably going to go into environmental biology. Or botany.

If you want to quit then quit, Fuck em. I dont blame you considering your situation.

wow uni must suck for you guys, ive found it awesome.
fuck judgementalism. im sure heaps of people snicker at me when i sit on the lawn and play recorder or harmonica or something in whatever bum clothes i put in inthe morning. but the point of hte place is to not care. its a chance to not just learn but to THINK and EXPAND! if your college/uni doesnt let you do that, then i recon theres somethign wrong with your college/university. why do people want more attention from their lecutreres/tutorials? do something worth getting attention! if you cant, and feel you must, then it probably isnt the right place for you.

all i know is that the last few weeks at uni have been some of the best ive had in a very long time.

but i dont want a degree, i want recognition and facilities to do research and write publications, so i guess your motives make a difference.

just remember that college is serious. if youre not doing anything seriously interesting then you probably wont get much recognition.

but a college with bullies is retarded, university seems to have syuch a range of styles and the like that it seems impossible for there to be any point in bullying.

I agree. I'm sure they are people you will encounter that you don't like, or maybe they won't like you...but bullies - that's absurd. If you have differences that keep you from getting along with cetain people, find other folks to hang out with.

why don't you just transfer to a different school? a mind is wasted when not educated. I get judged all the time. don't let it bother you. I just laugh at them!
