I agree. Cat's graphic and commentary styles make me skip his posts, and consequently any threads that arise from them. There's a saying..."Less is More"...Cat, you need to trim it down, dude.
Hikaru, I explained myself because I didn't want you to take the word ignorant out of context which you did anyway. I expected more from you. How fair of you to generalize by the way that all these other people have healthier mindsets. That shows how much you've done to break my stereotype of you as someone who's taking the route of rebel to get mommy and daddy mad. Again you're wiser than that.Generalizing all Christians is just as bad as the Cons and Neocons who are sending everybody to hell. Hopefully, you'll realize this. Sera, you don't have Hindus at your door because you don't live in India. You probably mostly have Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses at your door. I'm not saying you should hate them but that's a pretty broad blanket to throw over all Christians. I too know of Christians who come across as bigots, egotistical, and intolerant. But, the same could be said for any class of people. Accepting Christ as your Lord doesn't magically get rid of human nature. You have to work at that. I do think that on becoming a Christian it's your duty to work at those things as well. Remember though alot of evil has been done under every religious banner. Even the atheist banner. Also, please name a more charitable religion than Christians.
For years I was completely enclosed in the christian bubble. I didn't know anyone that wasn't a christian. My opinions are formed through my life experiences, and I have had enough experiences with christians to feel confident in my assessment of them. I understand accepting the religion doesn't make a person perfect, but if human nature was the least I would have had to deal with from them I would have been perfectly happy. It was the holier-than-thou nature I was sick and tired of...10 years of being smothered in self-righteousness is enough for me for this lifetime. But even that isn't enough to convince me there is no god, just that I am not interested in rubbing elbows with his followers. I don't believe in their god for the same reasons I am not worshipping Zeus right now. I still take people on an individual basis, I have friends who are christian - although the hardcore christians are put off by me because I don't appreciate their preaching to me, and they don't think you should be friends with the "unsaved" anyways. I just don't care to involve myself in that little world of theirs. When you accept christianity, you are accepting the religion and the community, and that is a community and religion I prefer not to be a part of. And I happen to think that people are charitable, it isn't religions. People would always find a way to help eachother out. Any religion as wealthy and large as christianity (and don't tell me there aren't churches across the world wuth massive amounts of money flowing through them, now and in history) would likely do a larger amount of charity compared to others. Oh, and mind telling me who it was that used atheism to motivate his people to war and slaughter? Regardless, when I mentioned christian history I am not just talking about the wars, I am talking about the history of christianity and the evolution of the religion in general. There is more historical information of the time out there than just what's in the bible, you know.
Pol Pot and Stalin. I also think hanging out with all Christians as a Christian is a mistake. You have to love everybody. I do think it's important to have Christian friends...Jut not all of them. I was talking charity by percentages. Of course Christians will have numbers. I'd say by capita Christians still win by a longshot. What exactly in the history of Christianity beside the wars bothers you?
It doesn't bother me. I just don't see any "god" behind it all. I see it as a religion that's beliefs aren't from devine inspiration, but more a borrowing of other ancient beliefs, an explanation for unexplainable events, a reflection on the times - and eventually a money maker for the catholic church, and governing tool for Rome. Edit: I notice we are now in the Islam forum, so I think we're probably roaming a little far off topic.
