I think many of you would like this era. Bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Fantômas would fit here. An example would be "Fire Walk With Me," the theme from the Twin Peaks movie (<3 Lynch movies), by the aforementioned Fantomas.
if you like post - rock you should check out the group Stereolab. The one album i have from Dots and Loops.. is quite nice
Slint anyone? Slint ARE post rock. Don't get Tweez by them, Tweez is shit. Spiderland is where it's at. Pretty much one of the greatest things to come out of the 90's. I love it to bits. Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai are awesome too, I love Like Herod by Mogwai, the first time I heard it I jumped about a foot into the air.
godspeed you black emperor!'s first album F#A# is immense. i like their other stuff too though, especialy lift your skinny fists to the sky like antennas to heaven. slint is good, but i never got into most of the others.
not to re name names: gsy!be is the shit. also mum, explosions in the sky, mogwai, tortoise. it blends here and there. oh and fantomas is in its own catagory. its filed under mike patton. because anything this guy touches is the fuckin shit.
Bowery Electric Fly Pan Am Aerial M The Workhouse Valley of the Giants Bark Psychosis Auburn Lull Shalabi Effect Set Fire to Flames Savage Republic Exhaust Do Make Say Think Flying Saucer Attack Rachel's Main Larval Jim O'Rourke Gravitar Labradford Fuxa The For Carnation ...for starters...
Godspeed are, in my fair estimation, the daddies of post-rock. Fly Pan Am and A Silver Mt. Zion are also groovy, as are Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Do Make Say Think, and Broken Social Scene. Motherfucker = Redeemer anyone?
How come Sigur Rós haven't been mentioned yet? They're wonderful examples of Post-Rock and a wonderful band in general. Their latest album has quite a few people thinking they've "sold out" to some melodramatic cliché of themselves, but once you get past that mindset you realise that it's all great. I'd recommend Ágaetis Byrjun and the slightly more sombre '( )'.
What about Mono? Fans of Mogwai would definitely love them. And, Below The Sea is great (For Godspeed fans.) Ummm, and Yo La Tengo and...... Tristeza
yea, stereolab is somthing you can't miss out, they are high on my list to listen to. i have listened to their last two albums and i have to say that Margerine Eclipse is a master piece.
