Knowledge, qualifications, or money? Was the reason worth the expenses and time?

Modern universities lack purpose and are too commercialized.

Today, it seems like universities are just about the money and getting the necessary qualifications for jobs and social status than the love of knowledge.

One, does not need to attend university to be knowledgeable on any subject like in the past.

To get a job in the career I want to go into (environmental policy), I couldn't care less about hte money...and I had all the knowledge. I just need a degree in order to do what I want to do in the environmental field.

Today, I guess universities are about proving yourself to the world.

Hey world, now I have an expensive degree can you please let me do what I enjoy and desire. Thank you very much.

The costs are outrageous and the courses are too thinned when they could be compacted reducing the time spend attending university. Knowledge should be free... Well, it is free but universities make money selling it.

Yeah well, it doesn't sound like you're actually going to school. How can you make an unbiased judgement.

I am a)learning lots, b)having a ball, c)going to be able to move directly into the career I want.

    I don't see the downside.

I'm not trying to prove myself...it's just a fact...I have to go to college in order to do what I really want. I don't agree with it, but I had to do it.

    none of the three
was expected to do it plain n simple,
i was the groomed lil brainiac in my world... college during summer months from 5th grade through 8th grade... college along with highschool1/2 n 1/2

    was also why i dropped out....(giant failure :p )
then returned when it was my choice.....

am also encouraging my younguns to go play a while before choosing university and go only when they feel settled enough or compelled to go..

Like many students, I was groomed for it since Day One.

Frankly, I didn't see any other compelling options. I figured I'd get some ideas about what to do next while in college, meet some interesting people and have some fun.

    A) You can learn without going to university.
    b) You can have a ball without spending so much money covering university costs.
    c) University doesnt necessarily mean you will have a job once you are done. I know many people who have degrees that cannot find employment. Eventually they will.

    Downsides:
    costs
    time
    examinations

You have to prove yourself to the world through acquiring university degrees, that you can do what you want or else no one will take you seriously.

No alternative, universities are a necessary evil to establish academic standards and promotion for jobs. But, they have become way too expensive, costly, prolonged, and obsessed with grades, examinations, and prerequisites.

I'm going to school to be a teacher because the gods put me on this earth to reach out and teach people.

stupid people motivated me to go to school. I don't want to work in some labor type of job.

School can be cheap if you start off at a community college and keep your grades up. I scored a 50% scholarship to a big university by doing this. School can be cheap if you make it that way.

Teaching is labouring, but a different kind of labour.

    Don't teachers make little money?

Who cares? I think the rewards of teaching far outweigh the amount of pay.

    PLUS, you get summers off!

You always have to factor in money, because without it you cannot live.

I think, it would pointless to seek a higher education that doesnt pay well or employment opportunities are limited. You will end up with debit and a suck living standard.

I'd rather be poor and happy doing what I WANT to do...than be rich and miserable...doing something that I don't really like to do all that much.

some people aren't materialistic...it's pretty obvious you are.
